Rating: Summary: a quite romanctic novel Review: I do like the actor who is maybe the best man in the world
Rating: Summary: Finally, the Good News for the Post-Modern Era Review: The Modern Era reduced the Gospel to Sin and the need for Salvation. Now amidst the angst of the Post-Modern Era, Curtis and Eldridge breath hope by broadening the Gospel. They begin the story 'Once Upon a time' when all was well and the Trinity existed in perfect love relationship; then proceed to the Tragedy of betrayal and how the goodness of God's heart was called into question, move towards Man's suffering and God's Grace given as a Wild Lover, and finish with the stirring imaginations about the glory of heaven when our Longings will at last be fulfilled. Drawing from the exquisite theology of C.S. Lewis, Buechneer, F. Schaeffer, and H. Nowen, these authors present God's Cosmic Drama in a way that communes with "the heart's longing for beauty, adventure, and intimacy". In the trenches of hope warfare, this book gives people back their hearts.
Rating: Summary: Life-Changing Review: This book has kept me interested when most don't. It touched my heart and changed my viewpoint, which was desperately needed. I read it slowly because every time I started to read it pierced through a "heart barrier" and brought me to tears. If it sounds interesting, don't hesitate. You will be blessed.
Rating: Summary: Wisdom and insight. My heart was touched, my life changed!! Review: Never has my heart known the freedom of such understanding. Listen to their words and see if you are not instantly drawn to this book...."There is this fire in us, felt as a desire for intimacy and a hunger for meaning, that we must literally kill if we want to escape the play"... "We long to be known but we fear it like nothing else"..."What he (God) is after is us-- our laughter, our tears, our dreams, our heart of hearts"..."Denying the tragedy of life requires such effort that it tears the soul apart. Believing that in the end there is only tragedy, kills the most tender "alive" parts of us"...These men have given us something unique and insightful. Words can not express where this book has taken my mind and heart. You won't regret a moment of the journey this book will take you on.
Rating: Summary: A liberating look at experiencing God from the heart. Review: I knew Brent Curtis before his untimely rock-climbing accident. Brent was a man who truly lived the Sacred Romance. I first experienced the Sacred Romance on audio tape. I have since read the book, and listened to the tape series (available through Dan Allender's ministry) three more times. No other Christian authors have come close to explaining what I have always known intuitively - that knowing God means knowing Him at the level of the heart. This is a book that men can treasure courageously, and women can savor romatically. You will never view Christianity in the same light after experiencing the Sacred Romance.
Rating: Summary: Living water for parched lives Review: All the way through this book, I found myself saying, "How did they (the authors) know?" Never have I read a book besides the Bible which so revealed my own heart and so drew me to God's. I have bought it for many people as a gift, and they in turn have bought it for many others. In this time of thirst for what is real and what will last, "The Sacred Romance" is cool water for dry spirits.
Rating: Summary: An encouraging and refreshing look at God's true heart Review: What is in the book at first seems so obvious that one thinks, "Of course! Why, it makes perfect sense... why haven't I put those thoughts together before?" It may appear obvious, but it is rich and full of depth; a refreshing and encouraging look at the magnitude of God's heart. Often I found myself holding a finger in the pages and raising closed eyes heavenward in grateful worship, basking in the awakening warmth of a truer understanding of God's love toward mankind... and not only towards mankind, but towards me. A rich and encouraging read for every child of God who wants a deeper knowledge of his Father's heart.
Rating: Summary: a new way of seeing God's love - feel free to dream again! Review: The Sacred Romance opened my eyes to a new way of seeing the love of God - Jesus as the main character in the love story of God and His people. What joy to be able to fit the pain, the blessings, and the longings we experience into God's larger plan. A wonderful book - I especially reccomend it to people who love God in their minds but not yet in their hearts, and to those who are Christians, but don't expect to ever be completely fulfilled by God. I've been amazed by the realization that our deepest dreams and desires are good - placed there by God and always pointing back to Him.
Rating: Summary: A much needed book. Review: I've just finished the book and am ready to start again. The second time through I would like to journal my thoughts and take the time to "rest" in the message of this book. As a person who ministers to college students I know that I will reccommend this book again and again. It has been like taking a journey into the deep and undiscovered parts of my heart, continuing the work that God has begun of bringing freedom, hope and Life out of deep personal suffering. I am grateful for the message of this book.
Rating: Summary: This is the book I've been looking for my whole life! Review: It's highly unusual for men to be able to embrace and celebrate the paradigm of being the bride of Christ, but Curtis and Eldredge have done it masterfully. Nothing I've ever read has helped me fall in love with the Lord Jesus as much as this book (well, maybe with the exception of my first read of the Narnia tales!). I am experiencing a level of intimacy with Him I've longed for my whole Christian life, and it's easier to "practice the presence of Christ" with the understanding that we are part of a cosmic love affair that meets our heart's longing for adventure and intimacy that we were created for. It occurs to me that Brent Curtis' "untimely" death was similar to that of Oswald Chambers; once he left a staggering legacy for the body of Christ, his Groom called him home to His side.
