Rating: Summary: Relationship Altering Book Review: This book gives an incredibly new and fresh look at our relationship with God. It brings it from a God who is the Author of our lives to a Lover of our souls who is the main character and is wooing us to romance and adventure through every avenue available. The authors of this book give intimate glimpses into their own lives to draw the reader into their own sacred romance with not only the Creator of the earth but also the Designer of our very essence. I highly recommend this book to believers and nonbelievers alike. The concepts and perceptions in it challenge deep spaces of the reader's soul in ways few books can.
Rating: Summary: sappy rehash Review: I do not recommend that you spend your precious time reading this book. There is nothing here that C.S. Lewis and Jonathan Edwards did not already write, and that more eloquently and lucidly. (...and certainly less sappy -- it seemed as though the authors had written this book just after spending considerable time at a medieval fair). I read the book only because of the hype that surrounded it in evangelical Christian circles. It was as if every Christian i knew had bought it and devoured it, all of them praising it with the same, eery enthusiasm (not too unlike the perennial "millenial craze" that raises its ugly head from time to time in certain circles -- remembmer "88 Reasons why Jesus is coming back in 1988"). After reading it, such zeal appeared both surprising and disturbing to me (i'm exaggerating of course, but only a little bit). The only noteworthy thing about the book is its gaudy prose. Please read C.S. Lewis instead, or Piper, or even better, Jonathan Edwards, John Calvin, John Bunyan, and other Puritan authors (e.g. Francis Rous).
Rating: Summary: What An Amazing Book! Review: I absolutely adore this book. It makes so much sense!! This is a great book to give as a gift. I have given away several copies, and I will give away more this Christmas season.
Rating: Summary: A Gift Review: Simply, it is one of the most important books I've ever read.
Rating: Summary: an awakening Review: By far, this is the most profound book I have ever read. I had no idea what to expect after being told this was a book I needed. I didn't know what hit me. It turned my belief system upside down. As a lifelong Christian, I had never been exposed to this type of thinking, I almost couldn't believe what I was reading. We are indeed being pursued, I had no idea how much. Now I see it in my life almost every day. What a difference this book has made in my life. Imagine what it could mean if everyone read it and it had the same effect!
Rating: Summary: LIFE CHANGING Review: A must read for the person who wants a closer relationship with others and God. The authors use popular music and movies to illustrate our deepest longing (to be loved and wanted), and the relationship that God wants to have with us.
Rating: Summary: Strikes home! Review: I've been reading a lot of Christian literature these days, but nothing has hit me so quickly and ardently as the Sacred Romance. Anyone who has suffered or is suffering various of life's dirty tricks will find solace in this book. The Arrows that pierce our hearts have never made more sense, and I'm going to have to watch "Forest Gump" again to see how much I missed, after reading the authers' analylsis of so many contempory events and infleuences. I'm ordering more copies for friends and church...
Rating: Summary: An incredible, awsome, 'MUST READ' book. Review: This is an incredibly awesome book for those who: --feel they have a sense of 'spirituality', yet have difficulty with religion --want answers for their sense of longing --feel empty --know Christ --knew Him well at one time and now feel distant, longing for that closeness once again It is just about for everyone. I couldn't put it down and have gone back to my underlined pages over and over. It is hard not to tell everyone I know about (I have told many). There would be few who could read it and not be moved. I have just ordered four more copies for my friends. Order it, read it, ....be blessed. (Deb P.)
Rating: Summary: naming our deepest desire Review: An explanation of a relationship with God specifically written to contextualize to the culture of the USA. Explains God's Romancing of humanity beginning with our lifelong hunger; the Arrow wounds that keep us from trusting; the Story our lives were written for; the wild love of God and Beauty; Less-Wild Lovers that we use to distract us from the real thing; and the Journey toward completion. Extremely well-written with a poetic flair, this well-organized book speaks to the heart before the intellect. A wakening call to the soul.
Rating: Summary: Does A Book Get Any Better Than This? Review: I was amazed at the beauty and detail of this book. The topics of The Fall and Heaven were especially interesting. This reading is great for seasoned and new Christians alike. I imagine it would be a spiritual boost to even the non Christian as it addresses questions like "Why is there evil in the world?" with a new edge. Of the many pieces I've read on the Character of God and the meaning of life, this is the only one I feel passionately enough to recommend. A must have!
