Summary: One of his best
Review: Max Lucado has written a lot of outstanding books. And this is one of his very best. Mr. Lucado writes with such a free floating style, that it grabs the reader and chauffeurs him smoothly from one page to another. With this book, the author examines the beautiful and everlasting 23rd Psalms as a way to help free us from all the unproductive and draining stuff we tote around. The study questions at the end of the book are useful for group discussions. However, I believe Traveling Light is the kind of book one needs to read and reflect on privately.

Summary: The 23rd Psalm applied to your personal burdens
Review: Max Lucado uses his sense of humor and ability to illustrate personal experience and anecdotes to make clear to the reader how the 23rd Psalm applies to each and every person, regardless of which burden that person struggles with carrying. Max breaks down the 23rd Psalm and explains each little part of it and how it applies to the reader's life (example - Max explains how "you are with me" from the 23rd Psalm means that when we are feeling burdened with {or lugging around an empty bag of} loneliness, that God has promised to be with us and never leave us. Lucado also presents possible reasons for why God might allow us to feel lonely, and how we can remedy that lonely feeling). Max also explains how Jesus is our shepherd and we are his sheep, and explores possible reasons why David chose this analogy for his psalm and not some other comparison. I liked how the discussions on different topics (about the 23rd Psalm and about burdens as well as about other ideas) were not superficial and Max addressed different feelings I had but didn't really stop to think about until it was mentioned in the book. Spending time with Traveling Light helped me recognize the extra baggage of burdens that I have been lugging around, and ways that I can set those burdens down and trust God to carry them for me. What Max had to say makes sense to me and brought a new meaning to the 23rd Psalm and also gave me a lot to think about (but I don't mean worry about - which is a burden we don't have to carry - I took away a refreshed spirit and hope in my heart from reading the book).

Summary: Unload Your Burdens On the Savior!
Review: Once again, Lucado writes another wonderful title designed for those who struggle in life's journey.

Among the many excellent points Lucado covers include:

1. What we have in Jesus is greater than anything we have in life.
2. The fine art of resting in the Lord.
3. Let God relieve you of anxiety. He will give you answers and provision in his time and way.
4. Jesus provides vision and direction.
5. We have nothing and are nothing apart from Christ.
6. God will use loneliness to draw us to Him.
7. Before you go to others with your disappoints and pain, bring them first to God.

Highly recommended for the content and devotional format.

Summary: The best book I have ever read
Review: Please believe me when I say this is the best book I have ever read (besides the bible..of course). In a time where we all carry so much baggage, Lucado walks us through the process of dropping of these bags one by one. Perfect for anyone dealing with a bad relationship, feelings of guilt, struggles at work, struggles with your family, etc. More than anything reading this book feels you with peace. I will always remember the line that says something like...don't worry how you're going to get over the hill, talk to the man who can move mountains. I have recommended this book to everyone and they have recommended it to everyone else. You will definitely pull this one out often! In fact, I gave the first copy away and have since bought the book and the accompaning journal to go with it. You will never read Psalm 23 the same with out feeling God's overwhelming love after this one.

Summary: a closer look at Psalm 23
Review: Psalm 23 is probably one of the most familiar Bible passages, right up there with John 3:16. "The Lord is my shepherd..." Perhaps it is too familiar. Have we become so accustomed to hearing it that we have forgotten the wonderful promise it contains?

Traveling Light is a verse-by-verse exploration of Psalm 23, brought to life by comparing us to travelers weighed down with excess spiritual baggage. Each chapter identifies a different burden that we may be carrying in our life: flawed views of God, self-reliance, discontent, weariness, worry, hopelessness, guilt, arrogance, facing death, grief, fear, loneliness, shame, disappointment, envy, doubt and the longing for heaven.

This walk through the 23rd Psalm reminds and encourages us to take God at His word and release those burdens to Him. As usual, Lucado supports his material with plenty of scripture, sharp analogies and just the right amount of humor. For added impact, be sure to work through the study guide at the end of the book. Then get ready to lose some luggage.

Summary: Effective followship
Review: This book could be titled "Effective Followship." It follows the 23rd Psalm in the trademark Lucado style and you WILL enjoy it. I also enjoyed "THE PRAYER OF HANNAH" by Kenn Gividen.

Summary: Traveling Light--a Genuine Delight
Review: This book gives excellent explanation for one of the best known Psalms: Psalm 23. The author realizes that word pictures are an effective tool of communication. Max Lucado is skilled at illustrating important Biblical principles with modern day parables. This book is appropriate for both men and women as well as teenagers. It is written in a simple format which makes it easy and enjoyable to read quickly and reread often. The first person point of view enables the reader to feel as if Max were sitting next to you, talking to you, encouraging you, listening to you. This book offered insight that is valuable because it includes Biblical principles.
