Rating: Summary: This is easily a Pastor's #2 Handbook! Review: Rick Warren has actively revived all of St. Paul's proven methods of the alive, growing "Church" in an easy to read, methodical and practical handbook for Pastors as well as Ministry Associates at all levels. Truly inspired and exciting writing, this will become one of the "Handbooks" of my ministry.
Rating: Summary: Awesome, awesome book Review: You are absolutely hooked after reading Chapter One. This pastor moves his wife and 4 month old baby to a US area he's never even seen before, grabs his real estate agent as his first member and starts his church in his home. Rick Warren then stomps the neighborhood surveying everyone. He builds his Biblical church from scratch with God behind him 100% to an attendance of 15,000 PER WEEK! His ideas are so innovative, so fresh, so exciting. This is a fabulous book for all Christians who dare to think.
Rating: Summary: This book tells of purpose and the Gospel message. Review: Rick Warren talks about building a CHRIST-centered church around the Gospel message without wrapping it around your feet! One of the biggest problems that churches face is growing their membership and losing their "first Love" Their original purpose! Pastor Rick tells the story of the birth of Saddleback Church and it's unique history. An awesome story....how do I know? I am a part of it. Go get 'em Ricky! Er....I mean Pastor Rick. Rating: Summary: One of the best books on church growth. Review: The Purpose Driven Church is by far one of the best books on church growth. The only limiting factor is that some, not all, some of the prinicples are not transferable to inner city, ethnic congregations. I recommend for those situations "Faithful Over A Few Things" by G. McCalep and "The Vision Casting Congregation" by P.M. Davis
Rating: Summary: Absolutely the best church growth book available! Review: If you read only one book on church growth - let it be this one! This book is the most powerful and down to earth "Church Health" book I have ever seen. It was so good I own two copies, one I keep for my own reference, the other I lend out to church leaders and friends. If you are involved in church leadership in any way - read this book.
Rating: Summary: The Handbook for Church Growth/Health Review: This book is a must read for anyone that holds any position in the local church. This is not a quick fix book, but a book that when taken and applied can open the flood of spiritual power. As with any book of this nature, do not try to copy tactics, but take the principles that it offers and apply them.
Rating: Summary: Sounds Drippy Spiritual, But unfortunately not Biblical Review: There are some very good insights in this book for pastors. However, if Scripture is your authority, this is not the book for you. Most Scripture quotations are taken out of context or are misquoted. The Theology in this book violates basic Hermenutical prnicples, and is overall poor. My question to the author is: Are you viewing Scripture through the eyes of your expirience, or viewing your expirience through the eyes of Scripture? The author has made the Bible say what he wants it to say. But, DO NOT take my word for it. Just look up all the Scripture References.
Rating: Summary: Must Reading For All In Church Leadership Review: Churches must change their ways to survive. Many churches today have lost touch with their real purpose. They offer stale programs and have little or no positive impact on their communities. New and growing churches are trying to develop plans and ministries for the future. The Purpose Driven Church provides a blue print for church leaders to rethink their core directions and focus their efforts on achieving them. It is a must read and discuss for professional and lay leaders alike.
Rating: Summary: Balancing the purposes of the Church Review: Rick Warren is a really wise men who knows from experience what is going on in a church. But not his experience alone makes this book so valuable, also the deep biblical insight in this topic. This book is very helpful. I think this is a "must read" for all pastors and especially church planters.
Rating: Summary: Life principle that make your impact last longer than you do Review: A dynamic life changing view of where you are going not only as an organization, but as an individual. This book based on Bible principles gives practical help in making godly decisions that will out last your position, disposition, and even your life. An absolute jewel if you desire to grow spiritually as well as increasing your sphere of influence.
We are all comitted to something or someone and this book helps you decern to whom you are comitted and where that comittment might lead you. I call this book a chiropractic treat for the soul.
Gives you an adjustment. Some times makes you sore, but always lifts you to a new level of growth
