Summary: Makes the Bible Come Alive....
Review: First I would like to say that a Bible has been sent to the person from LATVIA above. (Just in case other Christians were wondering if someone has responded to the request....)

If you've ever had difficulty understanding the significance of certains passages in Scripture, the study notes in this Bible really make the Scriptures come alive! One feature I really like is the user-friendly page layout, with the reference column being on the side, rather than down the center of each page. This really opens up the page and invites you to read what's written on it. There are 16 pages of full color maps in the back, along with a generous 24 blank page notetaking section, in addition to the .75 inch margin throughout the text.

I would not hesitate recommending the Life Application Study Bible to anyone who wants to understand the Scriptures better. It would also be the perfect choice for any first-time Bible reader or someone new to the faith because of the explanatory notes and charts throughout the book. You won't find this Bible just sitting on your shelf and collecting dust....

Summary: This is no book
Review: This is no book. It does not "contain" the word of God. THIS IS THE WORD OF GOD! Out of a possible 5 stars, I'll give this one infinity. Coming from an infinite author to finite beings, I could see how it may be hard to understand for some. Also seeing how the natural man will not understand it without the Spirit, it would definately be impossible for some (The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Cor. 2:12). But this reader was changed forever by the words the author spoke to his sprirt. It has power as it claims (For the word of God is living and active, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Heb. 4:12). As for the NIV, I am no Greek or Hebrew scholor, but I have been persuaded that it is perhaps the most accurate translation we have today. As for the Life application study helps. I found them quite refreshing and relative to my life. I'd recommend it to everone. If you are a skeptic, and just don't get it, I would pray God show you, illuminate you, and reveal to you the mysteries contained in His Word. It could change your life for all eternity. Jesus came not to condemn the world, but through His sacrifice, to save the world. Read it, study it, live by it, recommend it to others.

Summary: I didn't buy it.
Review: I've never really been a fan of The Bible, and The Student NIV is no exception. I really can't fathom what makes it such a great literary work when it has a lacking plot, indecipherable narratives, bad POV changes, and a terribly disconnected ending. I mean, New Jerusalem? Who would buy that? And doesn't one find the idea of streets paved with gold to be outdated? Another thing, the switch from the Jews to the Christians is a bit murky. I can't see one guy (albeit a cool dude like J) coming to save the world from an end that the world can save itself from.

Isn't the Bible just a bad mythological misconception of historical occurances around Macedonia in 4000 B.C.? I'm amazed that such a large cult following has developed from the very idea! Perhaps one shouldn't be so sloppy in choosing a cult (remember Jonestown,) but Christianity could really use a better book.

I, for one, wasn't impressed.

Summary: Hello to diligent Bible readers!
Review: At first I would like to say that I have not seen this edition, but I am a devoted Christian from the former USSR territory who has a limited access to Bible, esp. to different Bible versions and commentaries. therefore I'd like to ask you all , brothers and sisters in Christ - if it is possible, to send me either this or some other Study Bible ( One year, daily reading - etc), because I am eager to read God's word and to grow in Him, but pracically all that I can get in my county ( Latvia) is an old Bible translation from 177-something, without any study material. Iwould be very, very grateful if you gave me any opportunity to know the Scriptures better. I would be thankful for any kind of help in this field. if the Bible is old or used, it does not matter at all. I am already thankful to you, for i believe that you have heard this call from my heart. Write me to my e-mail address - brr81@hotmail.com. Peace be with you. yours BARBALA

Summary: Great Book!
Review: We have an extremely learned and gifted minister at our bible study and, while he covers so much more than is presented in most versions of the bible, this NIS version provides additional background that helps my wife and I understand the lessons so much better. So much so that I've had to order her one now.

Summary: Tremendously valuable
Review: I plan to purchase a copy for myself-I'm always reading my wife's copy! I found this version to be of great value for the wealth of resource information it provides, as well as the easier-to-read language (vs. KJV which I use in church services for it's accuracy). With the KJV, I've used footnotes and scriptural cross references to gain understanding but the Life Application Bible provides so much information throughout each chapter I'm reading. My study is much more efficient!

Summary: Modern English bible you can trust.
Review: I probably viewed plain English bibles in the same light a wine connoisseur would view wine-coolers at your local quick-stop. I found however, that the translations in this bible were not flipant and seemed to be carefully chosen. I greatly appreciate that passages are marked and noted in areas where the authors found slight divergences in one of the ancient Greek or Hebrew texts.

This bible is rich with maps so it is easy to see where the stories are located, how far journeys last and things like that. There are also summaries of the main characters and their roles in the stories -- a biblical "Cliff's notes" of sorts. Be careful though, as you might expect, your interpretation of a character's purpose in the story may be a bit different from that of the authors.

This is a great bible. Its ease of use has allowed me to increase my bible reading, without sacrificing accuracy or relevance to the original text. I can read more at one sitting without getting worn down pondering the meaning of Old English text.

One note of warning, however, an accurate, modern English translation of the 23rd Psalm (Ie. The Lord is my shepard, I shall not want. etc.,) falls absolutely flat. He doesn't "lay me down by still waters." He only "leads me by peaceful streams." Where the poet who wrote the King James bible would say "He restoreth my soul" this bible says He only "renews my strength." Yet, the care which is evident in other parts of the translation -- at least to a layman like me -- leads me to believe this is the more accurate translation, even if it is less poetic.

Enjoy this bible. It has become my friend.

Summary: The "Cheaters" Bible
Review: As a Sunday School teacher, it is pretty awesome to see students with their Life Application Bibles because they always seem to have the answers to the questions I put forth. I tell them they are "cheaters" for having a study Bible with all the teachers answers in it. This is an incredible tool I firmly believe any Bible student should have.

Summary: Excellent! In my opinion, simply the best.
Review: Fabulous correlation to other Books supporting the statements being explained. Attention to the details in explaining the things most people would not know of. There is no need to keep looking for another one because this one is it - the Inspired Word of God we can all understand.

Summary: The best study bible I have found!
Review: The study notes seem right on. Some other versions I found useless. Most repeated what was already written in the biblical text.
