Summary: Valuable asset for Christian scholars
Review: this is a really good work that can save you a lot of time in finding things. Like, what Moses said about Jesus...it's right there. This valuable resource rates right up there with Richard McBrien's Catholicism and the Harpers Encyclopedia of Catholicism, edited by Ricard McBrien.

Summary: Life Application Study Bible
Review: It is an excellent bible as the explanatory notes are really useful for readers to gain an inside understanding of the bible. It is like having a pastor with you all the time when you are reading the bible.

Summary: Slow in parts, but often poignant and thought-provoking
Review: The Bible, ghost-written by God, is one of the most interesting books I ever have read. With the assistance of 35 to 40 other writers, God has produced in the Bible what may be the most sweeping and transcendental romance of Eastern literature.

The Bible wastes little time in introducing us to its main character -- God himself, giving the book an autobiographical twist unusual for this genre -- and establishing its essential conflict in the form of a love triangle among God, humanity and other deities, ideals and goods.

From that simple start begins a truly epic tale as God, moved to jealousy when humanity spurns him, is forced nearly to destroy the entire human race at one point before dividing the race into manageable groups and developing a particularly close relationship with the Jewish race through which he intends to reconcile the rest of humanity to himself.

After this relationship begins, the story follows generations of the Jewish people as they alternately honor and dishonor their contract with God. Through it all, although the book is laced with incredible and often graphic perjorative over his loved ones' idolatry, God upholds his side of the contract, and demonstrates the full depth of his love through a personal sacrifice that by the end of the book restores the relationship lost at the start of the book.

The Bible is a curious blend of history and poetry, of human stories and dry philosophy, legal codes and genealogies, prevarications against forms of behavior God deems sinful, and statements so radical and tremendous that they would be sure to transform any society that dared embrace them. (I particularly was impressed with the devotion God shows to the disenfranchised, spending the bulk of his time with people most of his followers wouldn't be caught dead with: prostitutes, the homeless, drunkards, and other unrespectable and immoral sorts.)

It is these thoughts and the strong human element to the divine story -- who can forget the story of Joseph and his brothers, or the courage of Queen Esther? -- that have made the Bible a bestseller and a cornerstone of literature. When God's writing is dry, it is hard to stay awake through it, but when he gets going, the stories will leave an indelible mark.

Although this translation is among the best I am familiar with, this particular edition is less remarkable than others due to the inferior nature of the footnotes the editors have chosen to include. I found these to be rather limited in their analysis of the stories they were related to and as such, rather ineffective at their claim to be "life applications."

The Bible itself I would give five stars -- it's a must-read for anyone who wants to understand European thought and the history of the Middle East -- but the inferior nature of these editors' notes take a star off.

Summary: Keep your religions to yourself and everyone will be fine.
Review: What really gets to me with this book is that some people can like it, and some can't. I can understand both sides equally. If you like it, good. If you don't like it, good. It doesn't matter! Don't make stupid arguments about this book! I hate it when people force others to like a religion that they don't like at all. The problem with people today is that they are all full of opinions. Just keep your opinions to yourself and the bible won't cause stupid arguments and global wars. In my opinion, it took me a while to actually find out that Jesus (in my opinion) was the son of God. What made me believe in this guy was not his miracles, but his incredible parables and teachings. If you ever study those parables and try to understand what he's really trying to say, you'll find out this guy definitly existed and was the son of God. I can't stand those people who say that he probably never existed when they didn't even read the bible! Especially those who say, "Oh, the bible is just a made up story." Well, if that was true, then the person who made up Jesus's parables was a great teacher! You can't make up parables as wise as this guy did. But that's my opinion, and your probably now mad at me for boasting my opinion. You see! That's what makes people argue, their opinions. The truth is that we don't know who is right or wrong. I don't know if my opinion is right. It's just what I believe in, what I think is right. So to Christians and Athesists alike, don't pounce at eachother like angry cats! Be friends with eachother! Who cares if one believes in a God and the other doesn't or one belives in Jesus and the other doesn't! It doesn't matter! Your all human beings! Don't let your religion get the best of you! Just keep your opinions to yourself and you'll be fine.

P.S.: For those of you who don't believe Jesus was the son of God or that he ever even existed, but didn't even read the bible, should read it! No, i'm not saying that you have to read it, but that you shouldn't judge that the bible is just a made up story or that Jesus never existed if you didn't even read the book yet. Read the book with an open mind and see for yourself. I'd recommend you first read Mark, since it was the first and original Gospel, while the others simply (in my opinion) copied off of it and did some fancy changes to it. And remember what i said! Don't boast your religious beliefs to someone who doesn't want to hear it! Just let them be!

Summary: The Holy logos are inspired by God and advocating ¿agape¿ lo
Review: It is a book totally inspiring and touching at heart. It is a book that will change your life forever. God came in three forms, Holy Spirit, the Father, and Jesus Christ. God sent his one and only son, Christ, down to earth to show us the way to Heaven. Christ was then crucified on the cross so that our sins would be forgiven. For the consequence of sinning is death.

Summary: Wickedly funny, but it doesn't match the hype
Review: I heard about this book from my friend, who said it was the best-selling book of all time. So I thought to myself, "Wow, this is probably a good book, especially because they call it THE good book." I didn't have the money to buy it, but I found a copy of it in a motel room in Slidell, Louisiana. I was there visiting a dental surgeon. It was just sitting there in the bedside drawer. And by golly, I got a bucket of laughs out of it (especially that part with David and Goliath...it reminded me of an episode of that old show Parker Lewis Can't Lose, where there was this huge bully played by that guy who went on to be the big guy at the desk in E.R.) But it certainly didn't live up to my expectations. Granted, there were plenty of rad characters (Jonah was my favorite...what an adventurer!) and some good intrigue and action, but the rambling, inconsistent plot line couldn't hold my attention. By the time the New Testament rolled around, I was beginning to think those darned Israelites ought to just give up and dig holes in the desert and look for gold. And the God character didnt really seem like someone you'd want to worship. He smote those Israelites right and left. There sure was a lot of smotin' goin on. They couldnt buy a break. Well, then here comes this guy Jesus, and he seemed like a pretty good guy, with his miracles and all, and then he gets the almighty boot. Sidenote: that Judas character really reminded me of this guy i used to work with at this greeting card manufacturing company. You couldn't trust him one stinkin bit. So I found Judas to be pretty believable, as a character. Oh, and what's with these names anyhow? A little out there, if you know what I mean. All in all, i think its worth looking at. The authors seemed to be trying to teach a little too much, but it can be entertaining. Other books in the same vein that outdo this one are Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy and Sleepwalkers by Stephen King.

Summary: THE BIBLE
Review: Um, I think the Bible is a great book, because it helps you live a spiritual life. I'm best friends with the Author, too. He's a great guy. You should get to know him. I give the Bible five stars, because it shows you how to get to Heaven, and it would stink not going to Heaven.

Summary: Great Bible
Review: I own several bibles and this is the one I always use. It is simple to read, understand, and apply. The only draw back, it is not available in a leather cover. If and when I will purchase another one.

God Bless!

Summary: Surpremely put together
Review: This study Bible is by far the most popular one on the market and for good reason. The running commentary is evangelical yet scholastic. The editors have taken certian people in scripture and provided a quick "bio" and then provide a quick lesson on what we can learn about them and how to apply this lesson to our lives.

The topical index section is very good as well. Many areas in the book, the editors provide a quick synopsis of certian important materials like "A Journey Through the Book of Acts" that aid a reader in becoming more familar with the setting of a certian time period.

It does lack doctrinal instruction; however, and even though I give this study bible five stars, I do believe this is a weekness of the text. I still give it the high rating due to the ditors running commentaries due mention important doctrine and teachings and if people use this study Bible the way it is intended, then there will not be any problems in doctrine.
