Summary: This book is definately inspired!
Review: I have never read a book that spoke so closely to my heart. It has affected the way that I look at myself, and the enemy that is so prevalent around us. I believe that truely God has used John to present His word and the deeper meaning of what a relationship in Christ truely means. I have drawn so much out of it and the Lord has also given me opportunities to share the concepts of this book to others in order to "set the captives free". If you are looking for the missing pieces of the puzzle this book will definately help you find them. I found it totally biblical and refreshing. I have been a born again Christian for the greater part of my life and through this book regained so much of the true life that is waiting in Christ Jesus if we would only look to our hearts.

Summary: awesome book about God's love and Grace
Review: This book really packs a powerful messages about spiritual warfare and how we are under attack and do not even know it. Like they say in the Two Towers movie when the King does not want to risk open war: open war is already upon you whether you wish it or not! John really shows how true this is for Christians. Please do not pay attention to some of the people who reviewed this book especially in fact one person who apparently only read the first chapter and so doesn't even say what the author says in the book. John is a great writer who really has a gift to sift through the surface dialog and get to the heart and our hearts and what we really struggle with and why. I think his message is one hundred percent what Jesus and the Bible say, he just uses some examples which people don't understand how they could be Christian. But don't be swayed by them, focus on how aligned John is to God and Christ, and you will see past the shallow people who are afraid of looking at themselves the way John does. Read this book and all his books for how great they are at showing the real side of faith and how great God is and what he has done for us. God Bless.

Summary: renew your faith
Review: This is a great book! Eldridge takes you through a journey of how to re-commit your heart back to God and what really matters in life. His writing style is very easy to follow and he is very culturally "aware." Many of his ideas are expressed with examples he shares from movies such as Braveheart and The Matrix."

I was especially impressed with the emphasis he adds to being in a small group. Everyone interested in the small group "idea" should read this.

Summary: Most important book you could ever read
Review: I've just finished reading not only the best Christian book I've ever read, but the most important Christian book I've ever read. John Eldredge's, Waking the Dead, confronts the goodness of our hearts with images and words that will make you hug yourself in relief.
Also, he takes on spiritual warfare better than anyone I've read in 30 years. I've read good books on this subject, but John clarifies extraordinaire. Listen to this from John: ". . . the enemy knows you are trying to walk with God and tune into your heart - he'll play the ventriloquist and try to deceive you there. Any word or suggestion that brings discouragement, condemnation, accusation - that is not from God. Satan's accusation kills our hearts. There is a gravitational field the enemy creates around a person that pulls everyone in her life to do to her what he is doing to her. Remember the enemy fears you - fears your heart coming alive and full and free."
John talks much of what it means to fight for your heart and the glory of your heart. I think you could be flabbergasted in how you are not fighting for your heart and to realize you cannot really fight for the heart of others when you cannot or will not do the same for yourself. John enabled me to comprehend some relationships in my life where I let the enemy deceive me into not believing the goodness of their hearts. So much so that I felt much oozing from my heart in forgiveness for those who have caused me harm.

Summary: What true Christianity should be about!
Review: Another impressive book from Eldrege - one you just can't set down. John speaks completely from the heart, as usual, and gives a grand effort to help Christians discover what following Christ is truly about - the heart. He explains why many Christians have lost their hearts, and gives a wonderful, non-legalistic, and insightful way to get our hearts back, which is what Christ really wants for us. And of course we cannot forget that we are born into a world at war, but the Enemy is not flesh and blood. What sets John's words apart from others is the way he is not afraid to tell it like it is (in his own life and in ours), seems to know exactly what we struggle with, uses adventurous writing to keep our interest, and gives numerous real-life examples of how God works and relates to us in our lives.

Summary: This book is for REAL Christian Men
Review: I've just finished this book and read Wild at Heart over the Holidays. BOTH straight through, non-stop, which is a first for me and I'm 53! The absolute common sense approach of this author make me feel so close to Christ, closer than ever in my life. I think that most guys will be startled at the sharp contrast of loving Christ and what He wants for us versus what most churches expect. I stongly suggest the CDs of both Waking the Dead and Wild at Heart so that you can back-up to capture the essense of what Mr. Eldridge is saying. It's a VERY different approach and I think that you will enjoy your relationship with Christ even more ... if not a first awakening.

Summary: Life altering
Review: I dislike self-help books. I dislike Christian self-help books a little bit more. I had a chip on my shoulder about a mile high when a friend suggested I read "Waking the Dead," but I have to admit that it changed my life at a point when I thought I'd pretty much gotten done with big epiphanies. One of the most important and surprising things I got from it is a way to take my lifelong habit of seeing the world from a psychological perspective and integrate it with a new conviction about the nature of good and evil. Check it out, this guy has something to say to all of us.

Summary: Serve man or serve God?
Review: I spent much of my teenage years in the "Armstrong" (Radio Church of God) church and found it very legalistic. Now after a 35+ year gap am a member of a reformed church which is a breath of fresh air in comparision. Johns book however points out the possible danger of all man goverened religions.Do I follow the customs, rules and traditions man has put into place or follow Gods commands? Sure singing in a chour or attending bible study or serving on a commity is fine but God requires none of them for salvation, so don't let a church guilt you into believing that it is. Follow God first and then decied if any of mans traditions are for you.

Summary: Trust your heart!
Review: You don't have a 'bad' heart; you have a 'good' heart! God has given you a 'good' heart - so when you feel in your heart a desire you can trust your feeling because it's a 'good' feeling - and therefore you can do what you feel because feelings that are counter to your heart must come from the enemy who doesn't want you to be alive - and so you should start doing what you feel and stand up for yourself so you can be a warrior and fight the 'good' fight from the 'goodness' of your own 'good' heart.

Are you with me?

Do you see how Eldridge's words are so sweet and subtle and appealing to the flesh?

Where is the struggle with our flesh? Where is the struggle with sinful desires? Where is the struggle with feelings that are counter to God's will and word? Where is the Christian virtue that Jesus upheld of denying our selves in order to follow Him? When should I tell myself 'no' in order to say 'yes' to God? How can I determine if my passions are arising from my heart vs. my flesh vs. God's Spirit?

This book is tremendously introspective and highly self-absorbed. Oh, it's written in Christianeze as Eldridge is very subtle in how he couches his religion of the heart. Eldridge upholds one enemy of the Christian - Satan - at the expense of the other two enemies -- the flesh and the world. As a result, his war is fought on one front while the other enemies are coming in through the back door.

Brothers and sisters, be careful, be alert, stay on guard and discern!

Summary: The Best Book You Will Ever Read Next to The Bible~A+A+
Review: I am not sure where to start. This book spoke to me on so many levels; I am having trouble focusing it into paragraph form. This is my attempt, however.

Anyone who thinks the heart is inherently wicked and evil has not read the Bible. I must admit that I had never thought of it this way, but it makes perfect sense. What happens when you are saved, washed in the blood of Christ? Behold, you are a new creation, the old passes away and all things become new, and Christ comes to live in your heart and fill you with the Holy Spirit. Now...IF this is true (which I believe it is, because the Bible says it is) then why, OH WHY, do we think the heart is evil? Why would Jesus come to live in an evil environment? It would contradict scripture to assume that Christ would live in an evil heart. If he was willing to do that, then forgiveness of sin would be a moot point and Jesus suffered and died for nothing.

This book sheds light on subjects that I had not explored in depth before. I grew up a Baptist, and I currently attend a very vibrant Baptist church that is in-tune with the will of God, but spiritual warfare is seldom mentioned. Hey, churches aren't perfect in this world. Eldredge excels in speaking to the fact that we are at war.... a spiritual war against principalities and rulers of this present darkness of evil forces in heavenly realms. We must put on the full armor of God and guard our hearts, for they are the wellspring of our lives.

I could write a full-sized newspaper ad about this book. It has spoken to me in a way that few others have. The author encourages us to pray certain little prayers and probes us to ask questions to God throughout the book. And I did that. And God answered.... multiple times. He is still answering. Maybe I am crazy. That's fine, I can live with that, because if I am, it is for the sake of Christ.

Do you want to walk with God, see his face, and draw closer to his heart? Read this book. Study the scripture that goes along with it...and there are plenty scriptural quotes in here to keep you busy for a short while.

Above all else, Read This Book. Did I mention that? Let me say it again.... go buy this book and read it. And ask God to open your eyes.
