Rating: Summary: A Gift of Spirit in Everyday Life Review: Through a series of twenty one stories, Fr. Edward L. Beck highlights the God in every day life using a particularly refreshing voice within Catholic spirituality, a reclaiming of the spirit that forms the basis of the Catholic faith. Fr. Beck's candor and honesty afford us a level of intimacy with a Catholic religious seldom available but highly welcomed. Through eloquent, heartfelt narratives Fr. Edward leads us into a journey where we are invited to find the Spirit present in the travails of daily living: love, family, friends, work, personal loss, turmoil, trials, and tribulations. The book is an open invitation to share the bittersweet paths of life in the comfort of knowing that underneath all that surrounds us, God is ever present.
Rating: Summary: The human face behind the spiritual mentor... Review: Told in little vignettes or stories about life serving the people around him (as well as memories of childhood) author Edward Beck offers a revealing, honest glimpse into the challenges and rewards of priesthood. He doesn't gloss over the hardest parts - celibacy, being on call at all hours, the struggles of those he serves. But he also gives an inspiring account of his life, if only by the revelations he shares.
Rating: Summary: Enlightening! Review: When I started reading "God Underneath", I was reading so fast trying to take it all in at one time. I told this to someone, and they said "Slow down, read and listen and learn". I did just that! I read at my own pace and couldn't wait to get to each new chapter! The last few chapters just sent me over the edge, I was totally captivated, reading well into the night until I finished! I couldn't put the book down! I enjoyed it very much! There is so much for one to relate to and to make one's mind stop and think about the presence of God in our lives each and every day! Edward Beck is truly "A priest of today", a priest whom anyone with an open mind can relate to and feel God's power through his stories. He touches on so many subjects important to us in today's changing society, alcoholism, drunk drivers, homosexuality, sick family members, and so much more! Great reading, you must pick up a copy at once! You won't be sorry!
