Rating: Summary: OK, but the TV movie was better Review: This book was ok.. it's small so not a long read. The details were Ok, mostly the same story we saw on tv. The main reason I disliked it is that it's heavy on Mormon/Church of Latter Day Saints propaganda. Instead of using the Holy Bible for their scripture quotations, they use the Mormon books like the Book of Mormon and Doctrines and Covenants (D&C) Many people who are Christians may not like the Mormon preaching in the book. So why would people accuse Latter-day Saints of not being Christian? Apparently it has little to do with whether or not we believe in Christ and more to do with what we believe about Christ. Do the resarch yourself on the Latter Day Saints beliefs http://www.godandscience.org/cults/#mormonism and then decide if you want to be preached at for 150 pages. The book, is OK.. I would reccommend the unauthorized one called HELD CAPTIVE-THE KIDNAPPING AND RESCUE OF ELIZABETH SMART.
Rating: Summary: An honest Thanksgiving Review: Maybe I have tomorrow's holiday too much on my mind, but reading the Smart's account of their ordeal losing Elizabeth really struck a chord for me. They give all credit for Elizabeth's miraculous return over to others, the police, (despite some problems with law enforcement they really are very much grateful to them still), their community, to people around the world, and especially to Elizabeth herself. The book highlights the importance of faith, in a higher power, yes, but in each other as well. It's a beautiful book, one that will help you appreciate your life and loved-ones.
Rating: Summary: Money, Money, Money Review: Very sick as the parents just want to make money off their daughters unfortunate mishap. What I find puzzling is why the Smart story is so important. Why not have other kidnappings brought into the media? Elizabeth Smart is not the only child in the world that has been kidnapped. Ed Smart claims he is helping in finding other children, but I do not think he is. How can someone locate missing children with writing books and making movies as that is time consuming? I consider the man is strange. The book is a waste of time and money. I also hear that Elizabeth's uncles are going to be writing a book also. More funds for them. A book I will not procure as this one did not impress me. I kept a close watch on the news of Elizabeth's disappearance. I am glad she was found, but let it rest. It is over and done with and time to move on and find missing children. Since the Smarts are making so much money off this then they should share it with the thousands who searched for her for so many months. I would feel betrayed if I had been out looking for this little gal and then after all was said and done the Smarts are making the big bucks off of it. Use and abuse the one's who were looking for her. Maybe someone should write a book about the Smarts stupidity of leaving garage doors open and not turning on their alarm system to protect their children. They have no one to blame but themselves. I frequently visit Salt Lake City and have not heard good things about the Smart family.
Rating: Summary: A Very remarkable Family! Review: This book inspired me! What faith the Smart Family has. If you are looking for a book with all the sad details of what Elizabeth went through this is not your book. However, this book gives you faith and hope that a person can make it through the most difficult times and be strong and survive. Thank you Ed & Lois Smart for such a wonderful book
Rating: Summary: generous family Review: This book is a testament to the generous spirit that the Smart family has exibited throughout their ordeal. To Elizabeth and family: Don't be disheartened by the small mindedness of some. Most of us have been deeply touched by the way that you have handled this tragedy and wish all of you the best. It is an unfortunate fact of life that some people will always gravitate to the negative. Thank you for giving us a shining example of quite the opposite.
Rating: Summary: A Tragedy the Incident & the Book Review: It was and is a tragedy this young girl was victimized as she was. The sick criminal that did this could never be punished enough to give Elizabeth back her innocence. If the reader is looking to learn all the details and facts about the trials and tribulations of Elizabeth as a hostage they will be disappointed. This book is a story about Christian faith. It should be about a parents failure to teach their children about the brutal realities of life and their naivete towards strangers. Be cautious with who and what parents allow in and around the home of children.
Rating: Summary: Well written Review: Bringing Elizabeth Home was an interesting story about parents whose daughter, Elizabeth, was kidnapped from their home. It took several months but she was eventually found by the police and returned home. I very much liked how the family found comfort in their faith during the months she was away. The story is told quite skillfully and it did not take me long to finish reading the book since I found it so interesting. There is also a section of pictures from the family which I also enjoyed seeing.
Rating: Summary: Informative in the best sense Review: okay folks, you're going to have to accept the fact that Elizabeth's parents did not write a book that is going to give you a "You Are There" experience of Elizabeth's captivity. All I have to say about that (and I dare say many of you would agree)is--Thank God! If you expected otherwise you must not have children (or a brain) of your own. What they do tell us about--and what really matters about their story--is the anguish they felt, the difficulties they surmounted, and the utter joy they experienced when they were finally reunited with their daughter. Amen!
Rating: Summary: Review from someone who read the book! Review: What a shock! Can you believe it? Yes, I did actually read (and finish) the Smart book. I don't know what possesses people to hurl such hate around but it couldn't have originated in anything that actually appears in this book. They are just simply telling the story of what happened to them when their daughter was kidnapped. It was a horrible crime, they went through hell (to mention nothing of what Elizabeth went through): Where is the compassion? I liked the book.
Rating: Summary: A Testament to Faith Review: It's an powerful lesson that we all learn at some time when our faith is put to the test; the lesson that we must accept how little control we have over our own lives and that we must carry on with faith and hope. That's really what's going on in the Smarts' book. It's not Forensic Files, CSI, or Cold Case--It's not a tabloid fodder tell-all. I admire Ed and Lois for trying to put some dignity into the media circus surrounding their daughter.
