Summary: It Is An U.S. History
Review: The part interested me most is the relationship between Billy Graham and the presidents of the United States from Dwight Eisenhower to Bill Clinton, which takes one third of the book and covers half of the century of the U.S. history. He talked their charactors and family lives. Only Billy Graham has this kind of experience. You will learn those presidents from a different angle, a Christian leader's point of view. It is a very unique book. Regarding Christianality, if you do not have time to read the whole book of 735 pages, you can read the last chapter, chapter 40: The Best is Yet to Be, which concludes his faith and philosophy. It touched me that someone asked him if he thought God was unfair, allowing him to have Parkinson's disease. He answered: "Suffering is part of the human condition, and it comes to us all. The key is how we react to it, either turning away from God in anger and bitterness or growing closer to Him in trust and confidence."

Summary: Just as I am, a statment of Truth
Review: There are many who will doubt the central claim of Billy Graham's life and work. It is clear in reading "Just as I am" that Dr. Graham does not. He shows in lively and quick prose his beginnings as the son of a South Carolina dairy farmer to become probably the best known Christian in the world. All through this long (731 page) book his faith in the God that chose him to proclaim the Gospel of Christ around the world is the central message. He never fails to give all the credit to God. In his last paragraph Dr. Graham's quotation of the phrase which the composer J. S. Bach added at the end of each piece of music: "Soli Deo Gloria" or "To God alone be all the Glory" bears witness to his faith.

The single surprise of reading "Just as I am" was the level of cooperation he had from the Roman Catholic church. Even, as he states, prior to the historic Vatican II document of the 1960's his calls to Christ were supported and sponsored in part by Catholic Archbishops. Other items will delight the reader, and maybe touch his or her heart. I was moved reading accounts of the emotional reactions expressed by people during his Crusades

I think that Dr. Graham is largely as he seems. I say this not only because of his reputation, which is in so many of the famous a result of marketing, but because Dr. Graham has been proclaiming the Gospel for as long as I can remember, longer, indeed, than I have been alive. When one has had his stature for the length of his career, it gives strength to his claim to be just as he is. Many in this country and the world could still stand to follow his recommendations to live for something and to a higher standard. It is a fitting work at the end of his long and productive life as shows the central humanity of the Preacher. I will not agree with Dr. Graham on every aspect of his theology, but I have nothing but respect and admiration for the man and his sense of commitment. After reading "Just As I Am" I have a better understanding of the monumental scope of his work, and the faithful struggle it took to accomplish.

Summary: Finest example of what God will do with an obedient heart.
Review: There is good reason why this man endures as the years go past. Christ is everlasting and will shine as a light in the darkness through a life in complete submission to Him. This is by no means too strong a statement to make about Billy Graham and his family. His autobiography makes for some very fine reading. Enjoy!

Summary: Truly Blessed
Review: This book describes in detail how God opened door after door for the greatest evangelist of our time to preach the Gospel to the world. Truly God loves him and his work. Billy Graham's life is an example for those who want to live a Godly life. If only there were more Billy Grahams out there.

Summary: Like a fireside chat with Billy Graham.
Review: This book gives such an intimate portrayal of Billy's life you feel your in his den disscusing old times. I've read several biographies of his life. This is by far the best. No one can tell the story of a life like the one who lived it. The chapters on his relationship with presidents are worth the price of the book.

Summary: Just as you are
Review: This book is about these to me: If you can not be a great man, you can be an aide of a great man. If you can not be an aide of a great man, you can be a servant of a great man. If you are not qualified for a servant, then follow the great man(him or Him). You will learn how God uses a average person(a farm worker, a not 'A'-straight student, and feeling puzzled sometime at God's calling). I admire Dr.Billy Graham. And I like this book.

Summary: Must Read
Review: This book is inspiring, and insightful. The life story of the most influential man in history. Even if you don't share the same beleifs as Billy Graham, read the book.

Summary: Long but worthwhile
Review: This book is very lengthy, though not surprising since Dr. Graham has experienced some 60 years of ministry. I found it to be extremely detailed which in turn made it at times feel lengthier than it really is. He seems to have left no stones unturned as far as time frames, activities, and interaction with countries and well-known personalities are concerned. I especially appreciated Part Seven in which he gives credit to his co-workers and family for their contributions to his ministry. In particular, Chapter 39 is especially poignant as he reiterates what he might have done differently in his personal and professional lives. It is most interesting for anyone who has a fascination for a person and ministry of this magnitude.

Summary: Great. But there is one thing...
Review: This book was a great account of a great man. Billy Graham is undoubtedly the most well known Christian of the 20th century. This fact alone gave me a reason to read the book. The book was well written, and follows Billy's life geographically rather than chronologically. This sometimes makes his life hard to follow, but overall the book flows nicely.

Let me just point out several observations I had from the book. FIRST, Billy Graham is truly a humble man. He is constantly giving the credit to God. SECOND- Billy Graham has had an incredible impact on the entire world. He has been a close friend to several US Presidents, and he has had conversations with dozens of world leaders. He has also held evangelistic meetings in many countries in the world. His life has not only impacted the world spiritually (which is the most important impact). But his life has also impacted the political and social realm of the globe. THIRD- Billy is very accepting when it comes to theology. On page 251 he writes, "If a man accepts the deity of Christ and is living for Christ to the best of his knowledge, I intend to have fellowship with him in Christ." Personally, I would not take such an accommodating stance. Based on Galatians 1, I believe that those who distort the GOSPEL are unworthy of true Christian Fellowship. I think that Billy has been too accepting of `Christian' sects and religions because he has not adapted the attitude of Paul in Galatians 1.

Though Billy and I might disagree on this one point- I do not doubt that God has used him tremendously. I recommend the book to anyone who is interested in reading about the most influential Christian person in the 20th century.
