Rating: Summary: A real let down Review: The book had an excellent idea and failed in the execution. The writing is infantile in nature and the message is heavy handed at best. If it were even a little bit better, I might consider reading the next one. As it is now, I am not sure it is worth the effort.
Rating: Summary: My eyes are open now. Review: Powerful book! My eyes are open, my soul is open. This book opened them both, I could connect with a couple of the people in this book. Living on the edge, not willing or ready to take that next step to fall into the arms of the Lord. I went out and purchased the other five books that so far make up the "Left Behind" series. Very moving, very uplifting, very troubling, and very scary. After finishing the first book I went and found my Bible and dusted it off. If any book can make you do that, that's a damn good book!
Rating: Summary: Left Behind Review: I loved this book. It kept me very interested and I couldn't put it down. I've read the others and can't wait for the new one. I started going to church, was saved, baptized, and became a member of the church while reading these books.
Rating: Summary: A description of the Rapture Review: Read this book as someone who feel the need for Christ in your life. If you want to read a novel with all the "secular" elements, then check out Clancy or DeMille. I am a Christian, and yet I found myself praying once again the prayer of salvation with "Pastor Billings". I felt the profound loneliness of being in a world without other Christians. Even though I have read the book of Revelations 3 times, I found myself filling the margins of my bible with study notes taken from this novel. Forget the thin writing style - this was not the author's purpose. They simply wanted to communicate the book of Revelation so anyone can understand it and appreciate the second coming of Christ, all within an entertaining storyline.
Rating: Summary: Duped! Review: I was in the bookstore the other day, and came across the Left Behind Series. I looked like a cool science fiction series. Whoops! I was wrong - what I learned (from this site and others)is what it's really about - some type of fundamentalist Christian treatise about the Rapture, etc.... Yikes! Talk about marketing!Back to the bookstore it goes - unread!
Rating: Summary: Exceptional! Review: I'm basically a "non-reader", that is I don't enjoy reading and can't remember the last time I read a book for enjoyment. After reading this book, I have since read the rest of the series and am waiting "patiently" for book 7 and the rest to come. If you don't think you'd enjoy these books, trust me, you WILL! Thank you Jerry and Tim for your inspiring a "need to read" in me. I Absolutely LOVED this whole series of books. Oh yes, it took me less than 2 months to read them all...unheard of for ME!
Rating: Summary: Plot Okay, Writing Stinks Review: I've heard a lot of customer reviews of this book, and I have to disagree with most of the people out there. I didn't like this book much at all. Yes, I am a devoted Christian...doesn't mean I have to like bad writing, boring plot construction, and flat characters. If you haven't read many books, you'll probably like this. If you're like me, and you've been reading a book every couple days since you were six, then you probably won't. If this book is helping to convert people - awesome! But as a literary work, it just doesn't cut it. The description is nil - I suspect this is probably due to the belief that modern readers don't want description. I have yet to feel any real affection or sympathy with the characters. They seem to be cardboard cut-outs - there's nothing behind them! The plot is predictable, uninteresting, and unchallenging. I honestly can't understand why everyone but me likes Left Behind...am I the only one!
Rating: Summary: Make your own decision - try it! Review: I've read tons of the reviews and have to share my viewpoint. Reading is for enjoyment - if you enjoy the story - great! If you can't put the book down - who cares if the writing isn't 1st class. Left Behind is easy to read, fast paced and keeps your interest. It exposes a Christian view of the coming of Christ; it's up to you whether you want to believe or not. As with most pieces of fiction writing, it's fiction with a tie into reality.I've read all six books so far and anxiously await the 7th in May. I've also read "Are We Living the End Times" (same authors) which backs up the truth of the the Left Behind series based on the Bible. Read the Bible, other books, and decide for yourself. The choice is yours! I hope you find the truth!
Rating: Summary: Judgment Day lite-- Review: If this is what's passing for a good read these days, we're all in serious trouble. Slow, dull, BADLY written, cliche-riddled, uninspired, draaaaagged out. Why does anyone waste time on such lightweight efforts when there are really excellent Judgment Day novels out there? If you haven't read Kleier's THE LAST DAY, you haven't read the best endtimes novel. It's a jewel. Also, King's THE STAND, while maybe not as much fun as LAST DAY, is still one of King's best works. Jenkins and Lehaye aren't in the same league.
Rating: Summary: Whoa! Review: A friend of mine told me about the book and I thought I would give it a shot. I've since thanked him for letting me know about it. The book is absolutely fantastic. This book has made me think about where I stand with God and where I should be heading. I couldn't possibly imagine going through what those "Left Behind" are going through. If you only read one book this year, this really should be the one.
