Rating: Summary: An interesting read Review: Left Behind is a very different book. It seems the author was unsure of his target audience. His writing style is tailored to a juvinile reader, but the subject matter he dealt with was definately on a more mature level. The plot is very captivating, and although the writing style was very annoying, the book was a thought-provoker. I honestly do not know if I can endure another 450 pages of this author's style of writing, but I am curious on how the plot progresses in the next book of this series. This is not a book I would purchase, but rather borrow the series from a local library.
Rating: Summary: A fictional truth Review: Though this book is fictional, the general context of the book, I beleive, is taken from the bible. I believe that the rapture will happen. Perhaps not exactly as they portray it in this book but close enough. God does not tell us how exactly we will go but he does promise that Jesus is coming back for his people. This book is worth reading! But don't rely on it for truth.
Rating: Summary: One word. Awesome. Review: Starting with Left Behind you are thrust into the cockpit with Rayford Steele. You meet one of his passengers, Buck Williams. A flight attendent named Hattie Durham. As time goes on you get to meet and know other interesting characters. The story covers a two week period of time. For literary fanatics it falls short of giving them the detail they desire. For most of us who read this for pleasure, nothing will pass the time faster. I have noticed several people here decry the book because it does not line up with what they think will happen. Does the book enhance your relationship with God? That is the question which counts. It has drawn me into a closer relationship with Christ. It is not overwhelmingly theological at all. I do not agree with everything the authors have written in Left Behind but I realize it is only my personal opinion. The book is a well written book of fiction. The characters are human. We are able to get to know them and come to love them. We can appreciate where they come from, what their backgrounds are, why they think the way they do. With over 10 million books sold in the series, a kids series being written, dramatic audio editions out, and a movie being released in December this year, the Left Behind series has made a tremendous impact on people's lives. Most people I know can't wait to read the next book after they have read the first one. The characters get better with each book. This book which began it all truly is awesome. Thank you to Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye for writing this.
Rating: Summary: thoughts of left behind Review: never before have I been so into a book. I have read the first three of the series and am starting on the fourth. I haven't been able to put them down. I find myself reading all day and into the night. Excellent, excellent books!
Rating: Summary: Truly frightening tactics here. Review: Where does one begin? I find it truly frightening that so many people treat this series of books as gospel when it is FICTION. In an age of wars and civil strife based on intolerance, these authors have much to answer for in their expression of righteous intolerance for other faiths. The world does not need more poison in any form. People, if you seek true spiritual connection, go to the original texts and meditate on them and not to authors who use such questionable fear tactics to convert people back into their disturbingly narrow view of the Divine. Remember this series is fiction with an AGENDA and should be approached with healthy skepticism.
Rating: Summary: A little shallow but intriguing Review: This pilot experiences the "Rapture" while flying his 747 and after being forced to return to Chicago he must face his worst fears. His saintly wife and son have been taken and he and his analytical/sceptical daughter have been left behind. While I enjoyed the speculative nature of the story and even go so far as to compare it to C.S. Lewis's "The Great Divorce", it's characters lack depth and are to predictable. I can see this playing to the fears/arogance of Fundamentalist but not to those who belive that Christ knows where we live. I do however intend to read and encourage others to read the series because it does remain faithful to the Bible and that can never be wrong. I just wish we had gotten to know the "Saints" who were taken.
Rating: Summary: Left Behind makes you become more aware Review: I enjoyed this book so much. It made you really think about what happens when the Lord really does come and how he will come. It's a real eye opener about life and I recommend it to anyone and everyone. Enjoy, be prepared, and pray you are ready...
Rating: Summary: Are YOU Ready? Review: "A man and wife asleep in bed, she hears a noise and turns her head, he's gone. I wished we'd all been ready. Two men walking up a hill, one disappears and one's left standing still. I wished we'd all been ready." --D.C. Talk Are you ready to be caught in a whirlwind adventure? From the very beginning this book locks you in tight for a provocative ride of events of literally "biblical" proportions. This book is simply written so younger readers will have no problem following. Yet, readers of all ages should enjoy this book. It'll have you asking yourself "Am I ready?" Give it to a friend that may not be sure if they are ready for this event we call "the rapture". Very enjoyable book. I loved it.
Rating: Summary: Scare tactics to save "religion" from spiritual awareness Review: After completing the Conversations with GOD series I clearlysee this series as a way to scare wavering church going christiansback to their pews rather than allow them the relationship with God outlined in the CWG series. I knew when Walsch stated that you may have to leave your church to find God that someone would rise up and create a eternal threat to resurrect fear-based religion. "Religion " never had any other way but fear to keep its churches and bank accounts full. Please know that our one all loving, all caring, all accepting God will never damm you for eternity for coming to him on your own. Try unconditional love, acceptance, and accessability, leave your fear, and create yourself anew with knowing faith in a good God. God bless you.
Rating: Summary: Admittedly, I haven't read all of this book... Review: ...but I don't have to. Just from the few chapters I read in the bookstore, I can tell it's written at a juvenile level, with very poor character and plot development. I won't be reading the rest, either. I also don't recall (maybe I missed it) anywhere in an introduction where the authors admit that this is how THEY've interpreted the book of Revelation. It's a book of the bible that has confounded thousands of scholars and believers over the millenia, and has been misused by thousands more as a means to frighten folks into accepting Christ. That seems to be the thrust here, and I find it very irresponsible. NO ONE has EVER interpreted the end times fully, and even God said no one will know the time. I've never understood why Christians waste their time on the negativisms of Christianity (hellfire and brimstone) when there's so much to celebrate and cultivate (peace, brotherhood, scientific achievement). And one last thing... Why have most Christians failed to realize that prophecy is NEVER set in stone? God called Jonah to prophecy to the people of Ninevah that they would be destroyed unless they repented. They did and GOD CHANGED THE PLAN! They WEREN'T destroyed! Who's to say that ANYTHING in the book of Revelation will come to pass? Which is why I think it's a tragedy that many Christians would use "prophecy" as some sort of evangelism tool.
