Rating: Summary: Are You "Left Behind" Review: Have you read a book about a disaster that was so catastrophic that affected every person in the entire world? That is the basis of what this book (and this series) is about. There are many things throughout this book that are great. Here are three things I loved about this book: the excellent plot, the life-like characters, and the series of situations and problems that are presented throughout this book. This book is a Christian fiction book but it can be enjoyed by anyone of any religion, or people of not religion. The two great geniuses behind the book (and the series) are the authors: Dr. Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. Mr. LaHaye, who is the "creator" of the Left Behind series, is a prophecy scholar, minister, and educator. He has published forty nonfiction works that have sold over 11 million copies. Mr. Jenkins is the writer of the series. He has written over one hundred books. Eleven of those books have become bestsellers. The great characters are fictional but are as if they are real people. They have real lives and have different outlooks on the "disapperences." Many of the characters believe different stories about where their loved ones are. Some people believe there were aliens that took them, some belive that a chamical reaction evaporated their bodies, other say the church rapture took them to heaven and many do not know what happened. No one knows exactly what happened, but everyone knows something happened. The situations that go on throughout this book are almost life like. The reader can almsot put himself in place of the character. There is a teenager, who is in this book, which appeals to other teenagers, there is a younger man, that younger adults can relate to and there is a middle aged man, so older people can relate. These characters have the same problems as a normal person. This is a great book. It is one of the best I have ever read. By the way, what is the big "disaster"? How did it happen? Where did the millions of people go? I guess you will have to read the book to find out.
Rating: Summary: Made Ya Think! Review: If this book doesn't make a person think, I don't know what will. I was immediately hooked to the series just after the first book. One friend, who clamis to be agnostic, said it made her interested enough to read Revelations. Now, how's that for makin' ya think! This book definately made me take a better look at myself and my way of life. I've been a Christian for almost 14 years and yet there are soo many things that I do not know,(or tend to ignore)and Left Behind proved to be an eye opener. I am greatful for this book and would highly recommend it to ANYone!
Rating: Summary: Saved One Review: I am saved thanks to this series. Not only is it informative about Christ it is a great book for the story. I would say this is a must read series. Much better than the Harry Potter Series and a lot of other books and I read alot.
Rating: Summary: Christian Rock sucks, so does Christian Fiction. Review: Ugh. I read this because a friend of mine is an ex-fundie and she still reads the series as a 'guilty pleasure'. It's such horrible drek, it's hard to even comprehend. The authors seem to have done little research beyond reading the bible, anything vaguely scientific is usually a little off. (I don't think I'd call Ethiopia as the middle-east, either - Libya? Maybe - but that's more North Africa). I stopped taking notes on annoyances after the first chapter. I'm surprised I didn't stop reading it totally. I guess, it's just like a literary car wreck, and I just can't stop looking. In all fairness, the Bible itself suffers from a weak narrative and lack of character development in many areas, so who's to blame the authors. (Yeah, authors - it takes two people to come up with this pap.)
Rating: Summary: I'd rather give it ZERO stars, but that's not a choice Review: TERRIBLE writing. Maybe if you had never read another work of fiction in your life, or a comic book, or seen any movie or cartoon, you may be able to think this was an OK book. But for the rest of us; the characters are one-dimensional, the plot is obvious, the "creativity" is lame, etc. It is disappointing that an interesting idea was implemented so poorly.
Rating: Summary: Other revies not fair Review: I must say im on Book 3 of the left behind series. In fact im reading it as i sit here at work writing this review. The writing is not as others say horrible, as a reader who reads books by Tom Clancy, Steinback, Anne Rice, and Louis La'mour and others i must say that these book rate very high on the in-depth reading level that all the author's i mentioned portray. The series starts out with Rayford Steele a Airline pilot flying a routine flight when 80% of his crew and passengers disappear. This is teh rapture. All i can say is that from their the story is amazing. I was a non christin and i still have issues that keep me form coming a die hard christin. I do believe in god, and the rapture but do not believe certain things in the bible. This book on a non christian level opens the mind to the possiblity of the rapture actually occuring and hell even if you dont really believe it makes for a great fictionious novel. On a christian level the meaning and truth of this series is there. All i can say is give this book a chance, and dont read it with a closed mind. If i picked it up expecting another lame "bible" based book i would have hated it. But it was read with intuition and curiousity that just made it exciting. So read the whole series and tell me if the writing is as horrible as everybody says TM
Rating: Summary: I don't see how any adult could read this dreck Review: Someone who raved about this "book" pressed it on me, as a voracious and wide-ranging reader. I opened it, read a couple of pages, and returned it as soon as possible. That doesn't qualify me to review the book as a whole, but there is one thing I can say to a certainty: this is the worst writing that I have ever encountered in something that was actually published. And it doesn't even have that so-bad-it's-good quality that could get you some laughs. It is awful and another step down the dumb ladder.
Rating: Summary: I'd give it a zero if I could...... Review: Don't read this out of some misguided notion that it's the Christian thing to do. This book reminds me of the Dorothy Parker quote, "It is not a book to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force." This book came recommended to me, and I borrowed it and the next one in the series. I was SHOCKED by how poorly it is written. There are Harlequins out there with better plot and character development, and the writing is on an elementary school level. I made it halfway through, and then just couldn't stomache it any more. Is there such a dearth of readable, educated, intelligent Christian writing that this schlock gets published? Please say it ain't so!
Rating: Summary: Very bad writing-Got 1 star because I couldn't give it a 0 Review: I'm currently trying to get through this book. The writing is horrible. I want to clarify that specifically the dialog between the characters is horrible. They say things that no one would ever really say in a situation like the one they are in. To the Authors: Please don't write any more books. Leave the writing to the real authors. Like Dan Brown.
Rating: Summary: Terrific Review: I liked the book a lot...written well and egaging. Even if I don't necessarily agree with the theology presented, it is thought provoking nonetheless.
