Rating: Summary: Don't leave this book behind Review: This is a exceptional book. I picked it up because of family inspiration. The book is about the end of the world as depicted in the book of revelation in the Bible. The main character of the book is Rayford Steele. He is the captain of a jet airliner. The rapture occured as Ray was in the air. As mass panic infests the airplane, he does not know what is happening. Nearly half of the passengers on board have left the airplane or disapeared. This is a very inspiring book and it is great for people who enjoy apocaliptic event. This is only one book in a series if you have not guessed. The authors of the book are Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. This book has about everything your looking for; horror, romance, and mystery. I don't recomend this for young people due to some of the graphic events that take place in the book. It's almost like a science fiction to some people but to other people it is all fact. If you like science fiction you should pick this book up. The only flaw that I saw in this book was the the writing. I enjoy really technical writing like Tom Clancy and Michael Crichton. Even with that flaw I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. My personal response to this book is that is a good book for about everyone. It really helped me with everyday life by having a lot of inspirational writing in it. This is also the only book that I have read for a really long time that didn't have a word of profanity and I know that is really hard to find these days. Don't get left behind by not reading this great thriller.
Rating: Summary: Wow what an amazing book. Review: As someone who is to a point not religious in anyway. I found this book to be very good. I normally tend to keep away from book that will try to preach religion at me. This book captured my intrest two night ago and I spent the whole time reading this book. This book has it all. The story is one that would only seem to be something you would see in the movies. I don't want to give to much away in spoiler, but all I have to say is to read this book and give it some thought. I had kept away from these books due to the fact that they were in the religion section of my bookstore, but having borrowed this from a friend all I have to say is I can't wait to read the rest in the series. I only hope that this was a start to a wonderful set of book that I will enjoy and recommend to others.
Rating: Summary: Left Behind Review: Left Behind is a great Christian fiction book. This book isn't too Christian but uses Christian themes. It puts it own twists on what is said in the Bible. Left Behind uses fictional characters and real places to express the story in the book of Revelations. It has many plot twists and turns. Left Behind is written so it sounds like it could really happen. This book is 468 pages long and ends in a great cliffhanger. Christians and Non-Christians alike will like this book.
Rating: Summary: INSPIRATIONAL Review: This book is truly uplifting...I found that it revived my faith as I walked through the acceptance of what each of the characters already to be knew truths...each of the characters are believable and well-developed. It's an easy novel to read, and it's addictive... I would recommend it to anyone--even those who are not believers...it has a wonderfully gripping plot and the Bible references are incredible...
Rating: Summary: Reality check Review: This book has been on my bookshelf for quite some time, and I just picked it up a week ago and started reading it. I think that God chose that time for me to start reading it because of all that has happened in our world since Sept. 11. Think about it, the Bible says that the End Times will come with great wars, cities will crumble, earthquakes will rock the earth, and the stars will fall out of the sky. Within 3 months, all of that has happened (war against terrorism, twin towers, earthquakes in New York, and the meteor shower). Don't get me wrong, I'm not someone who is running around with picket signs and yelling "The End is NEAR!!!". However, it is something to think about. This book has been an inspiration to me to keep my faith strong, even when times like these are presented to us.
Rating: Summary: ...but I couldn't put it down Review: Since I could not find a forum to review the entire series through book 8, I chose book 1, where most people begin. My rating - a 3 - was right in the middle, because my reaction to the books was so polar. I found myself unable to put any of the books down, and I very much wish I had bought them as a set, to avoid running to the store every couple of days to buy the next couple. I had no idea they were so addictive. Each one left me excited to see what would unfold next. On the flip side, as a person holding a degree in literature, which I chose to study because of my love of the written word, I was frustrated with the amount of repetitiveness and unnecessary filler. After reading the first three, I noticed that they were all approximately 400 pages long, which left me wondering whether that's what LeHaye and Jenkins were contracted for. I would hate to think that Christian writers would sell out their message to the lure of capitalism. (I'm all for capitalism, I just don't think it should come first in the writing of Christian books.) I would love to see the same material handled by a really good writer condensed into one page-turning, spine-tingling monster novel. There were also multiple missed opportunities throughout the novels to graphically expand on the terrible events of the end times. I got the sense that these were not fun times to live in, but I never truly felt the bone numbing despair and fear that the Bible clearly indicates. All that said, I still found the "underlying" story-line compelling. I felt like I got a much better handle on end time prophesies and the basic time-line of events as fortold in Revelations and the other prophets. I'm not sorry I read them, and I do intend to read the rest of the series - though I may wait to buy them used. My recommendation: Read them, but save your money and borrow them from the library, a friend, or buy them used, if (like me) you must own your books. Then, and perhaps most importantly, loan them to an unsaved friend. That's the bottom line after all, isn't it, to share the message of the gospel, and to lead others to salvation through Chirst?!
Rating: Summary: The most thought provocing book . Review: ~May I just say that this first book in the left behind series, will get you started on an adventure. It also starts you thinking about your stand with The Lord. I found this to be so in my life. I have read all the nine books so far. The first one is really great you will not be able to put it down. I highly recomend it. Then I recomend that you read the others. I can assure you that you will not be able to put them down. I usely read before going to sleep, and I found that I was~~ up half the night because I could not put them down. So if you are anything like me who cannot put a good book down don't read it before you go to sleep. Congratulation Tim and Jerry on a job well done with these books. They may be fiction but they do make you stop and think.~
Rating: Summary: A great Book! Review: This Book was very exciting, and interesting! Even though it was very long, I enjoyed reading it, and waiting to find out what would happan next. I would recommend this book to anyone who thinks they have the time to read it, and not worry about how long it is. I'm already looking forward to reading the other books in this serries!
Rating: Summary: Stick with it.... Review: I received this book for Christmas last year and honestly tried to read it. I found the beginning interesting, how people mysteriously vanished, leaving nothing behind but their clothes. As the book progressed, however, I got really bored reading through the political side of it, dealing with Carpathia and the one world jargon. I never did finish the book, so when I found it unabridged on audio at my library I decided to give it another chance. I did manage to get through the whole thing this time and found that I wanted to move on to the next in the series. I realize this is someone else's interpretation of Revelations, but it was interesting to imagine what would happen if all of these prophecies came true. I would recommend this book to anyone as long as they don't mind having to wait for additional volumes to be written.
Rating: Summary: Fun and Addictive Review: Okay, I'm a bit late on the scene reviewing this book. When I picked it up, it seemed everybody had heard of this series except me. I soon learned why it had gained such popularity. I found it addictive - I couldn't put it down. Yeah, the Christian view portrayed by the authors is very Protestant, but I enjoyed it just the same. You have to approach this book for what it is - Fiction. Very good Christian-based Fiction.
