Rating: Summary: Left Behind - A must read! Review: I had heard very little about the book before the purchase. I was totally floored with how involved I became with the book. I was actually questioning whether most of what this book is about could really be real! This book has been passed around my immediate family, even my 13 year son loves the book. We have started the entire series and am now in book 4. A must have for every family.
Rating: Summary: Read the Revelation of Jesus Christ instead Review: This book is disturbing--not because it describes the judgment of God, but because the prophecies of the book of Revelation are used in such a secular, sensationalist manner. It makes my soul recoil to see the holy Word of God presented as "religion lite" or mere entertainment. In the Bible, God is pretty clear that his word is not meant to be added to or subtracted from. I am certain this also means that God's Word is not meant to be dressed up or watered down and made into pretty, palatable fiction. Reading Revelation is really scary, especially if you have friends or family who are not believers. Even as a Christian, Reading about God's wrath and judgment of the human race makes me want to hide like a cockroach. But Christians and non-believers would be much better off to read Revelation than "Left Behind." If reading Revelation doesn't get you on your feet, witnessing to EVERYONE about Christ, nothing will.
Rating: Summary: Have fun with it! Review: I have never been a big reader. A friend recommended this book to me and I thought I would check it out! Well I am very glad that I did, myself being an 8-year veteran of Catholic School I figured I would find this book interesting and I was very right. This is a really interesting and fun book to read, a "why can't I stop reading this" page turning thriller! The one thing to remember is not to take this book so seriously and to please remember that it is just a story. Even though it is based on Revelation in the bible doesn't mean this story is a word for word translation. This book is one mans view on the topic and very well done in fact! I would have to recommend this book to anyone with an interest in revelation and the end of the world; it certainly does make you think!
Rating: Summary: What to say? Review: I don't know what I can say about his book series that hasn't already been said. The book begins by all of God's faithful believers being taken up to heaven in the Rapture of the Church and everyone else being "Left Behind" to try and figure out what happened. Of course, following the book of Revelations, there will be the time of peace, the time of war, the four horsemen of the apocalypse and the rise of the Antichrist. We are introduced to the main characters in this first book of the series. They are all interesting down-to-earth people, but they have a few flaws. First off, they all came to know Christ VERY quickly after the loss of their families. I would have expected a time of grieving and even anger at the Lord before they came to embrace him. Also, the text is written on a level appropriate for a 12-year old. This is both good and bad. While it can feel at times that the authors are speaking down to the reader, most people do not have the knowledge of the End Times that would be required to understand all of the nuances of the plot twists. Also, having the book written on an easier does make for a fast read which is appreciated. I feel this a good Christian novel, but it is not the only one out there - and definitely not the best. Why 4 stars:? While there are some flaws with the characters and the writing, this book is a good introduction into the world of Christian fiction and helps to bring the world of Christian media into the hands of believers and non-believers alike. Moreover, it is a quick read that will keep the reader turning the pages.
Rating: Summary: Good starting material Review: If you're looking for something about religion and you're too lazy for or anti Bible, this may be a good place to start. It'll make you think about how you live your life. If God does exist, which He does, am I living my life in a way that will be pleasing to Him or to society. Who are you living for? The story isn't Biblically based, but it can be used for great spiritual conversation starters and to evalutate your life. (...)
Rating: Summary: Amazing! Review: First let me say that I was raised Catholic, and although I still maintain my faith I have not attended church in years. Fact of the matter is, I'm turned off by organized religion. OK, that said, I picked up this book at the urging of a friend. The best word for me to use was entranced. I was entranced. I read this book in 2 days (and that's WITH chasing a 2-year-old!) and am new reading #2 in the series. Above all, the book got me thinking, and that's a start.
Rating: Summary: Left Behind Review: Tim F. LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins's Left Behind is a dramatic, fiction recollection about the Rapture of Jesus' people. The plot of the story is a double plot that follows the events of a commercial airline pilot and a world-renown reporter. At one moment in the story, billions of people disappear from the face of the earth, and they leave all their material possessions behind. All that have disappeared are either miraculous people are children. Chaos and riot fill the world. Many people begin forming theories to justify the event. Some blame the phenomenon of aliens, while others say that Jesus has come back for his people. As these events are taking place, a European politician experiences a drastic popularity campaign. This campaign was prophesized on videotape before the disappearances took place. This priest was one of the missing. He prophesized the disappearances and the reign of the "antichrist". The antichrist is the politician. The overall theme of the story is one of Catholic faith. It is that we should repent our sins and let God into our lives soon, for we have no idea when we will pass away or when God will return. This novel is interesting and instructive. It raises issues based on faith and salvation. I have been affected been affected by Left Behind's reality. I fear what would become of me if Jesus did return for his people. This book deemed interesting to me, because of the dramatic events it contained. Over one billion people disappeared from the earth in the blink of an eye. And not one person had an answer. However, those Christians left behind knew what had taken place. The rapture of the church had been prophesized throughout the Bible. The entire plot catches the reader's attention. Left Behind is also instructive. It lets the reader know that the price of salvation and heaven are great, and we, as Christians, must do everything within our will to become more like Jesus. The main issues that this novel raises are faith and salvation. Tim F. LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins inform that reader that salvation is impossible to obtain without faith in God. They enlighten the reader to the fact that faith involves not only belief but also action. In order to be true Christians, we must act on our beliefs in God. The reader is also informed about salvation and what it takes for one to receive this priceless gift. We must have true faith in order to receive the gift. These issues affect me as a Christian in many ways. This novel hit home for me in variety of manners. All the issues that were touched on relate to my spiritual life, because I am a Christian. I have always been brought up believing that God forgives us all, and that if we are "good people" we will receive salvation. Left Behind was a rude awakening, and it opened my eyes. It showed me that I am expected to be a "true" Christian, one who follows Jesus' s life as closely as possible. I am expected to do as Christ preaches, and if I do, my reward will be great. Tim F. LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins did an excellent job with Left Behind. The plot was action packed and thrilling. The novel discussed the issues of faith and salvation, which affect me personally. I believe that this book was well written, and is a book that everyone should experience.
Rating: Summary: A great end days novel! Review: I enjoyed Left Behind. This work of fiction explains some of what is in the Bible concerning end times. The characters came alive throughout the pages. I was drawn into the pages by the creative skills of the author(s). The thought of everyone vanishing in the Rapture and being left behind is a nightmare. I think the writer(s) did a great job of painting a picture of what it would be like if that were to happen.
Rating: Summary: Addictive and informative Review: I thought the book was incredible! Having read Revelations, I felt sufficiently prepared to read this Religious Fiction (my first). I read quite often, and am in a book club, so I was puzzled when I saw the poor ratings. What an inspiring, frightening, incredible book! I couldn't put it down and I raced to the store to get the next one the same day I finished the first! I am just starting the third book and I am completely enthralled.
Rating: Summary: great book Review: This is a great book. I must admit that I was a little saddened by the poor ratings of others. Alot of people's ratings are based on how they feel about the writing, the characters, or whether they feel that the end of times is realistic or not. I say, look deeper than that. This book has a message and a purpose. This book moved me. This book made me start reading my bible again. this book made me think about what type of christian I am. The only reason that I can see someone not liking this book is because it either scared them or it made them feel a little something called conviction.
