Rating: Summary: Captivating... Review: I must admit, it's taken me a little under a year to complete this book. (Sorry- I have a life, kids, and family to take care for, books aren't a number 1 priority in my life.) But once I found the time to read this; I couldn't put it down. I found it very intense to the Christian mind. I, being a Christian and a believer, find this book to be very possible. Definately makes me think. This is a great book, if you're looking for a better understanding on how people can take the everyday world for granted.
Rating: Summary: Great Books! Review: I first started reading this book about 4 years ago in the fall- and while the 1st part of the book held my attention, the middle of it became kind of slow with information and facts. I set it down and didn't pick it back up for months. When I did and got through the slower reading- I was hooked! When you finish this book you get the "I need the second one right now and cannot wait" kind of feeling. I found out then that the slower facts and info part was needed and is worth it in the overall book. I recommend that you stick through the slower parts and you will be rewarded in the end! I have also read all of the other Left Behind books to date- and they are amazing and captivating as well! I recommend all of these books to anyone who likes to read! :)
Rating: Summary: intriguing Review: I'm a Christian, so I didn't have a hard time believing the religious aspects of this book, but some of the plot lines were a little unbelievable. Some of the things that happened - not including the rapture or any of the religious stuff - were a little implausible, and I have to say that the very final scene in the airport parking lot was more than corny. However, this was definitely an intriguing story and really got me thinking. Despite a few slow spots, this was a book that was sometimes hard to put down. I'm eager to read the next book.
Rating: Summary: An exciting look at the rapture! Review: A pilot and a reporter's life's collide when millions around the world disappear. Reporter Buck Williams and pilot Ray Steele come together to find the truth about the disappearances. This book contains adventure and excitement with a bit of romance. It is a look into the lives of regular people when an extraordinary event occurred. It teaches people about respect, love and hope. The book is a fast and easy read that is hard to put down. The book also causes you to look at your own life and question what you believe. This religion based book is good for all teens and adults looking for an answer to life's questions. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Left Behind will take your imagination away Review: I am never that much of a reader. I have to admit that I picked up the book just for a school project for my English class. Oh great, another book to read. I open up the page and it is actually so hard to put down. I mean that has never happened to me before. And since i have heard of when Jesus and God will return for his people, the book makes the reality of what will happen come to such reality. If you are a christian and if you are not, you should still read this book because it is very real and very well created. Wonderful work by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins.
Rating: Summary: A non-fiction Review: The story starts with the rapture of church by God. Millions of people disappeared in a moment with their belonging left behind. And the story fulfils exactly the prophecies in the book of revelation of Holy Bible afterward. I'd read loads of excellent articles, on both pro and con side, about Christianity. I'd reached book 4 of this series. The reading experience throughout this 4 volumes brings me a feeling of reading sort of comprehensive bible stories, or a extension of bible words. For the sake of evanglism the novel do achieve it in a certain extent, especially in the part describing the praying experience of the member of the tribulation force. Their spiritual interaction with God is truly sentimental, touchy and even more important, very real. Unfortunately it spans only a couple of pages. Indeed it is less a novel, in terms of character development, plot and etc. I am pretty disappointed by the lack of drilling into the casual relationship of apocalytic events. After all, the story span more than 10 volumes. Time and space are not concerns. In the novels they just happened because and only because it has to fulfil the prophecy. And I found little inspiration in this novel. Neither learned a lesson. If you are a Christian, it won't bring you much new stuff. If you aren't a Christian, you may not be moved by the stuff in this novel.
Rating: Summary: 2 Stars: Generous..... Review: A while back, I wanted to see what all the fuss what about the "Left Behind" series of books. So, I picked up the first few books and read through them in about a week. I soon realized this purely speculative rendition of the end times was mildly entertaining, but that was about it. I think this book, and the following editions amount to interesting books about the same level of writing as stories about gunfighters in the old west. The very fact that Lahaye is profiting off his version of the book of Revelation is slightly alarming, but this is the USA, and he can do, as he pleases. With all that said, this book was mildly entertaining, but purely speculative in nature. It seems every 100 years someone figures out this is going to be the end of time, and they can prove it. I wish Tim Lahaye would get back to teaching people how to study the bible, and less about worrying about the end of time. C- Joseph Dworak
Rating: Summary: Tami's Review Review: Setting: Mount Prospect, Illinois at the time of the first coming of Jesus Christ, UN in New York Characters: Rayford Steele, the airplane pilot and Chloe, his daughter; Hattie Durham, the stewardess; Cameron Williams, (known as Buck) the journalist, Bruce Barnes, a left behind pastor of the Church of New Hope, Nicolae Carpathia, shown to be the antichrist Summary- Christ comes back and takes those who have accepted Him as Savior. All others are left behind, leaving only their clothing, jewelry, and glasses. The resulting chaos of the accidents and sense of loss has Rayford, Chloe, Buck and Bruce looking for the answers. Bruce finds a video left behind from the senior pastor explaining the disappearances which was made before it happened. Rayford and Chloe are left a legacy from their wife and mother who tried to tell them before it happened. They both study the Bible to come up with their own answers. Buck, a journalist, discounts the alien invasion theory put out by the networks and seeks the real reason. They all end up at the New Hope Church where they see the video left by the previous pastor. They are told what happened and given the hope and chance to accept Christ now. Hattie, rejected from the beginnings of a romance with Rayford finds employment with Nicolae Carpathia whose strange powers cover up what really happens in his move for power. These events try to follow the prophecies found in the book of Revelation in the Bible. Author Evaluation- It is very suspenseful with excellent character development. It is well written although sometimes preachy.
Rating: Summary: The promising genessis of an Epic Review: Some books are read just for entertainment. For some others, the pleasure of reading can be combined with education. I will leave the religion bias aside...I will leave that bias entirely out. The book is extremely well-researched, written by a scholar who can probably recite it backwards. It makes the references pertinent without making the text too heavy. It makes the learning smooth. It also makes the story interesting because you keep coming back for more. Who is that antechrist, what does he want...you get dragged into the story and you stay hooked until the end, while learning a lot about the bible book of Revelations. It could have been become a classic...if the writer skills would have been at par with the scholar author. The characters are not believable, to the limit of cheesy, have no depth. They are there solely to guide you from scene to scene. All in all, a good book that could have been great.
Rating: Summary: Left Behind Review: Left Behind was a wonderful book that really makes you think about your own life. How good your life is and everything in it or how bad everything is turning out to be. The stories about people losing all their family members and being lost in the world makes you realize how lucky you are to live in a house with a loving family. To others it may be a reminder of the hardships they face day to day. Looking at the world through Rayford and Buck's eyes shows the differences between people having to do with their family backgrounds. Rayford had a wonderful wife and two kids that he loved dearly so it was crushing to know they were gone and why they were not with him. Buck who doesn't have a homey background is confused and mixed up in the whole situation of the disappearances of people with no one to turn to. The stories in the book describing the end of the world made me think about my life. The wrong things I do everyday that I know I should not. The things I wish were going the way I want them to but I know they are not because of my own doings. The suspense in the story makes you want to prevent putting yourself in those situations. You want to change the way you do certain things to bring peace among everyone. The pain and hurt among Rayford and Buck help you realize your role in life and relate to them by remembering pain and hurt you have gone through. I feel that this book was very good because it makes you think which many books do not.
