Rating: Summary: Interesting concept, but poor writing Review: My summary says it all. I am just doing my part to bring the overall rating of this book down. A very quick read with a great concept, but something is lost in the writing and blatant propaganda.
Rating: Summary: supremely thought-provoking Review: I find it sad that some people reviewed this book as silly, boring, etc. Wake up folks! You are the ones who WILL be left behind. This book is absolutely factual in its biblical representation. Sure is is written in fiction form and some areas may not and were not meant to be factual, that's why it's called "fiction". However, the events chronicled are non-fiction. They are from the Bible. I am riveted to the series, and can't wait to get to the next book. I have read most of the books in one day.I pray for all those who don't believe what this series is trying to tell them--that Jesus is the Messiah and is returning one day for his people. What is in store for those left behind is too terrible to contemplate--please don't wait until it is too late.
Rating: Summary: a couldn't put it down book. Review: Once I started to read this first of a series, I read until my eyes burned, but could not stop. I have been a believer for a long time, but these books are like 2x4's over the head to make me realize how a world without faith in the Lord could survive. Thank you Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins for giving us a virtual reality look at the book of Revelations. It is well written, not trite, and needs to be a movie. I only have Assassins to read and can't wait.
Rating: Summary: Read it from cover to cover in less than 2 days! Review: This is a great book! I love the plot, good characters and the story moves fast. I completely recommend it! I enjoyed it so much I went out and bought the other five books in the series straight out. I'm starting the second book in the series right now...
Rating: Summary: Fast read---Bad message Review: It's easy to hack the Bible for the sake of fiction and money, but to do it so amateurishly and to so artificially construct upon the book of Revelations is a sacrilege that might impress only the slowest of folk. This is all made up, people, with the most cringingly obvious stock characters, the cheapest of sentimentalism to substitute for faith, no real character development, completely ridiculous situations. On the plus side, it IS a fast read, mostly because there is no actual substance in to engage the mind or the soul. Now, the Bible states clearly right at the end of Revelations that for anyone to add to the things said in that book, change them, construct on them, substract from them in any way is a big no no. Read your Bible again, please. And don't substitute true faith for cheap crass commercialism.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed and Duped Review: After hearing about this book for months, finally settled in one night with my new copy.......I should have watched Wrestling instead! It appalls me to think that such simplistic and unimaginative writing could suck so many people in. While I am among those "seeking more answers" to the life of my soul, this book is only an example of literary effort at its worst, not to mention the religious bigotry. Just another commercial example of those who consider themselves "Saved" and use a book like this to besmerch every other religion on the face of this earth. I stopped half way through and tossed it in the trash.......don't even feel like passing it on to the Donated Book Sale at the Mall.......quite frankly, I think J.C. would have done the same!
Rating: Summary: Good story for kids, not adults Review: Well...it is an interesting premise. And the story moves along well. It' just, overall, kind of silly. That's the only adjective that seems accurate. An EXTREMELY literal translation of Revealations is what I guess this is based on. The story is fun on a 6-8 grade Sunday school level, but I can't imagine a mature adult really buying this as a serious piece of fiction. Israel is a world power because they can grow vegetables? Food exports don't make you a superpower. Ask a farmer. Food is overabundant already, it just isn't profitable to distribute. Scotland Yard has no rank of "captain". The anti-Christ couldn't be more obvious (and so less anti-Christ-like),and the political machinations that go on are naive in the extreme. Everyone outside of politics thinks the UN is an important, powerful institution. God knows what would make them think this. The religious editorials interupt the story too often, and are rather hokey and simpleminded, reminicent of those Davey and Goliath shows. Not a bad read, but one is enough. If this is typical of "Christian fiction", it has a way to go before it reaches a very broad audience. Question: If the reporter guy is 30 or so, what's he doing going after the pilot's college-age daughter? Is that "Christian"?
Rating: Summary: The best series in the history of Christian Fiction! Review: One of the most intriguing and well written books I have read in years! This story really gives you something to think about! The novels following Left Behind; Tribulation Force, Nicolae, Soul Harvest, Apollyon and Assassins are also just as riveting and compelling. These are a must read series!
Rating: Summary: So scripturally true that it makes me weep Review: I found this whole series to give me goose bumps and tears. I found it to be enlightning and very informative, and it helped to clear up some of my questions. Since Revelation is not in chronical order it helped to put things into perspective. My own husband who was "sitting on his fence post" has started getting his act together. I am even more burdened for lost souls than I was before. I am so looking forward to the next book. I will leave this series for those who do not get raptured to read and learn by.
Rating: Summary: A parable for modern times Review: I attended Catholic schools for 15 years (grade school through college) and didn't know as much about the Rapture and the biblical predictions of the end times as I've learned in this book. What a great way to bring God's messages home to us in this modern world.
