Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Decent Illustrations, but Somewhat Dull Story
Review: Certainly suitable for young readers from ages 4-8, but the story lacks pizzazz. It's about twin sibblings Jimmy and Janet who--while visitng the lady next door--are given two dog biscuts, and they spend the rest of the story trying to figure out what to do with them, and then trying to find a suitable dog to give them to. How exciting is that?

In fairness to the author, the story is easy for children to understand. There is nothing wrong or confusing about the story, but as a parent reading it to your children, after several pages of repetitive scenarios/dialogue, you may find yourself wanting to skip to the end saying, "...blah, blah, blah, blah, and they lived happily ever after. Next book please!"

Summary: great for reading aloud over and over again!
Review: My children loved this and all the other Beverly Cleary picture (and chapter books). I cannot even say how many times we have read it, as well as The Read Hole, Growing Up Feet, and Janet's Thingamagig. I can see this story actually happening with small children, and I know Mrs. Cleary based this series on her own twins. The illustrations are very cute, also.

Review: My Pre-K class loves this story. That's why I came to this website so I could buy the book. I lost my old one, and I miss it.

Summary: Maybe Paul Martin isn't reading it with enough expression.

Review: Our three boys (ages 10, 6, and 4) have loved this book for years. The illustrations are lovely, and - what fun! - Jimmy and Janet prove their mother wrong in the end: cats do, in fact, like to eat dog biscuits. Yes, it is a simple story, but it is genuine and funny and gentle. Bravo, Beverly Cleary and Ann DaSilvo Ryan!
