Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: This book is the star of all books!!! Review: Elsa, and her family have been forced to live at a Bed and Breakfast hotel. It isn't as nice as it sounds, it is actually a homeless shelter. Elsa's mum and stepfather Mack seem to be overwhelmed by the change in circumstances, and Elsa feel it is up to her to make life bearable for them,as well as her younger half sister and brother. This is a very tender book which treats a very grim subject with warmth and humor and realism. Elsa copes with her situation by telling jokes, and her footnotes introduce the reader to the differences in language in the US and England. Once again, Jacqueline Wilson and illustrator Nick Sharrat have combined to make a delightful story that will be enjoyed by the younger reader.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: One of The Best!! Review: This is one of my favorite Jacqueline Wilson books. You can tell this is one of her first English imports because the use of footnotes are relevent. I wish they had done that in The Lottie Project or in the "Girls" Quartet!Anyway, this book is about Elsa, a 10 year old girl who lives with her mother, her stepfather Mack, and her little half-brother and sister. They lose their house and are forced to live in a shelter hotel. To make things worse, Mack is abusive to Elsa and her little sister. But Elsa manages to keep her head high through all this. Even though the "family room" that all five live in are as small as one person's bedroom, Elsa makes new friends and has new adventures. She tells jokes alot, and wants to be a comedianne someday. I felt really sorry for Elsa and her family. Luckily, they found happiness when they least expect it. And after I read this book, I had a new view on the English. Before then, I thought that all English were as rich kings and queens. But even the most wealtiest countries in the world cannot escape poverty.
