Rating: Summary: "Fortune's Journey" Review: "Fortune's Journey" is about a girl, Fortune, trying to carry out her father's last wish of travelling with the acting troupe to California. Fortune, an orphan except for her 'adopted' family, the acting troupe, stuggles to cross the United States to California. She moves from one town to the next putting on some of Shakespeare's plays to earn money for the journey. Along the way she meets Jamie, who becomes her friend, confident, and significant other. The acting troupe experiences mob fights, the loss of play props due to fire, gold fever, and the discovery of hidden secrets. The book ends happily ever after.
Rating: Summary: Great Suspense, Accuracy,, and love! Review: Bruce Coville has always been a big favorite in our house for family reading. We have loved the Alien series, the Magic Shop books, and all the others. But my one word summary for this book is YUCK! I've never read a harlequin romance, but I have a feeling that this book is just like one of them. It's not that I don't care for historical fiction; we just finished The Ballad of Lucy Whipple by Karen Cushman, and that was fantastic. Compared to Lucy Whipple, Fortune Plunkett is an empty-headed feather-brain. Sorry, Mr. Coville, but this book just didn't seem to meet your usual high standards.
Rating: Summary: What I Loved Review: I loved this book!!! I am only a young reader, but it was very well written and has a lot of exciting events. Bruce Coville talks about a teenage girl fulfilling her father's last wish of traveling the united states in the late 1800's. She is also stuck between choosing someone she is between, Aaron, or the new member Jamie, and surviving the dangers of the Oregon Trail and what lies before it. This is a MUST READ!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Great Suspense, Accuracy,, and love! Review: This book was an amazing one to hear. I say "hear" because I listened to the book on tape. One person in particular in a review said that the book was boring at the start. The book, however, was not boring at all, if listened to by careful naration by the person talking on tape. Filled with suspense, the book carries you on a journey back in time for me. Great emotion in the book. I loved it. It is a story about fulfilling a dead father's dreams, and realizing she is fulfilling her own. Read the book. It is good time spent! Great immagination too. The author teaches you to think carefully before you act, and to not let life pass you by. Realize the gifts you have been given.
