Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great book
Review: I selectively buy some of the books in this series generally for the illustrations and the social context of the period covered.
This particular volume has tremendous illustrations and the text isn't bad either.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Gutter Leapers and Lamp Lighters
Review: This is a great coffee-table or lite-reference book for those interested in France during the reigns of Louis XIV-French Revolution. Lots of colorful images make it easy to understand this complex era. Loaded with interesting tidbits not always found in dry textbooks or biographies like Louis XIV liked to make hot chocolate for his chosen guests and Louis XV employed a midwife to educate doctors on the proper way to care for pregnant women. This is a great book for educators too!

Summary: Large beautiful illustrations, lots of teeny tiny print
Review: This title is beautifully illustrated and the accompanying text is well written and interesting. However, the type size is very small, particularly under the captions. The small type may be intimidating to students and inaccesible to individuals with low vision.
