Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Very Good Book for Girls Review: because it is so ridiculous it makes me laugh. i mean, come on! elsie is a perfect girl who goes to aunts house who's name i don't even remember and is instantly chased by a fortune hunter. (did i mention that she is also rich and beautiful?) so, elsie is so naive that she doesn't realize he is [bad]instead she goes along with it, but of course saying that "she can do nothing without papa's permission" and blushes about 15 times in a single chapter. then to the surprise of us all her fathers friend steps in and discovers the "bad guy" for who he really is, elsie is heart-broken but she submits to papa who is the most strict father alive and then at the end of the book she gets engaged to her fathers friend who is twice her age! okay, i'm out of words, but if this review sounds complimentary then i have failed horribly.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Book Report for Mrs.Stewart (I love this book!) Review: Elise's Girlhood by Martha FinleyThe conflict is that Elsie falls in love with Egerton. She cannot marry him at the climax. It is resolved when Travilla and Elsie engage. Elsie is a godly woman who respects her father and his choices greatly. She has a tender spirit that is easily crushed though. Others are attracted to her because she is open and caring and they can tell she is beautiful within. The theme is that you need to respect authority, no matter what, because they know better than you do on most matters. I loved the book! Only girls would enjoy it though. Even though it was written in the 1860's, you didn't notice that it was. I would recommend it to any girl and I will certainly read the rest of the books
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Very Good Book for Girls Review: I think "Elsie's Girlhood" is a wonderful book. It is wholesome and adventurous. Elsie faces many challenges in this book, and it is inspiring to read this story. I think girls will enjoy this book, as it is very interesting.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Terrific! Review: I think my favorite part of this book was Aunt Wealthy, who keeps putting the hind part first in her speech, such as "Horace, will you please step up on that figurine so you can get the ladder down from the shelf?" (Horace, will you please step up on that ladder so you can get the figurine down from the shelf?" In response to one review I read I think the reason why Elsie was so naive is because she was deeply in love with Broomly, the money seeker, and unfortunately in her case, 'love covers a multitude of sins.' If she had been just a little bit the rebel, she would have married Broomly Earginton and got in to a whole lot of mess. Also, Edward Travilla was not twice her age, he was only 8 or 9 years older than she was, and if my memory serves me correctly, Princess Diana was 13 years younger than the Prince. So much for age! (And if it's any consolation, Mr. Travilla dies in a couple of years.) Sorry if that's a spoiler, but one of the titles of the books is "Elsie's Widowhood." Other than that, I really enjoyed this book, and I do recommend it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: I Couldn't Stop Smiling Review: In my opinon this where the Elsie series should have stopped. I own all of the Elsie books and my opinon this is by far the best. What Elsie fans think is coming at the end of book two actually happens.
At the end of this book I couldn't stop smiling when Travilla finally professed his love!!!-- It was probably the most romantic ending I've ever read. I've read and re-read this book probably a hundred times and still seems just as touching as when I first read it. The Travilla events in this book are so touching and personal you find yourselves wishing you were in Elsie's shoes.
As in all of the Elsie books things start out slow and boring but, quickly become interesting once you get into the story. This is in my opinon is the crown jewel in her writing,
I would recomend the Elsie books to anyone who has a young daughter or who is a Christian... these books are meant to be an example on morallity and beauty. Buy the first four trust me you will not regret it!!!

Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: unrealistic, but a fun read... Review: This is the only of the Elsie books in which Elsie disobeys her father and is eventually proven to be wrong in her disobediance. For that reason alone, it's worth at least a skimming. Rose, who is probably my favorite character in the entire series, is especially good here, and even Mr. Dinsmore shows some humanity. Wow. My issues with the book are based mostly on its inherent racism(apparent throughout the series) and anti-Catholic bias. But as ar fun read and a thought provoker, Elsie's Girlhood is one to pull off the shelf every couple of years and re-read.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Wonderfull!! Review: This was the first Elsie book I read as a child about 45 years ago. I had an opportunity to go back to it and also read the first two from Amazon. I cannot imagine why I liked it when young - all my other "youth books" bore re-reading in adulthood. The sanctimoniousness puts me off most of all. Then the horrifing mentally cruel child-rearing practices exemplified in the first two books could not possibly be a good example to any parent. The other subtle unwarranted elitistic messages also jar - racism, class-ism as well as the clear religious intolerance. I have put Elsie Dinsmore behind me for ever.
