Review: Arlene Alda's ABC book is very much like Steven T. Johnson's "Alphabet City" and I consider it just as good. Her 123 book is also excellent.

Summary: No ABC for baby or me
Review: This book shows a series of pictures that through the artist's perception one can see that everyday objects have a likeness to the capital letters of the alphabet. The entire book is an exercise on visual perception. Some of the objects are deliberately set to appear like the desired letter.
This is not a children's book. It has pictures that make an impact because of the unusual pictorial lay out; perhaps some gifted older children would enjoy this book. Overall, I cannot see how it made it on the list as a young children's book. I suppose back in 1981, children's thoughts and learning processes were still not taken into serious consideration. This book was designed and created for a much more mature audience.
