Rating: Summary: A young boy wishes he could be alone...and gets his wish Review: "When I Wished I Was Alone" tells the story of a young boy who got so very angry at his family that he wished he never had a family and could always be alone. Writer and illustrator Dave Cutler grants the young boy his wish. The next day when the young boy wakes up, he finds himself on a very small island floating in the middle of the sky. Yes, the situation will remind a lot of older readers of the movie "Home Alone," but of course Cutler deals with the idea in not only a more serious way, but also a more lyrical manner, although clearly the lesson is the same. This is Dave Cutler's first children's book, having already illustrated the covers of major magazines and holiday cards for UNICEF. The paintings are brightly colored, and Cutler's use of various shades of blues is especially nice throughout the book as the young boy learns to regret what he said in anger. It would be nice if your kids never had to read this book, but you know that there are always times when everybody (even adults) wish they could be all alone too.

A young boy yearns to be all by himself, and his wish comes true - far away, in a place with beautiful stars, rising moons, and dancing planets. It is such a glorious experience that he finds himself longing to share it with his family; how is he ever to find his way home? A gentle and caring tale of ties that bind, When I Wished I Was Alone is an enthusiastically recommended picture book for young readers.
Rating: Summary: In touch with tender feelings Review: Here's a keeper for the children's library. Nicely written and beautifully illustrated.
Rating: Summary: When I wished I was Alone Review: I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. Since I know the author/illustrator I knew this book would be phenominal. My son is 4 years old and absolutely loved the story and the pictures. It really made him use his imagination. He actually asked me to read it to him again as soon as we finished the first time. After reading the book to him a few times he is now able to read me the story!! I highly recommend this book to anyone who knows a child that loves being read to.
