Summary: Sob inducer
Review: Ah, "JT"...I used to borrow this book from a friend of mine when I was in elementary school way back in the mid 80's...after school I would buy a Wachamacallit and a handfull of Bazooka Joes, sprawl on my bed & have a sugar and sob fest as I savored both my candy & my millionth reading of this beautiful, achingly sad book.
About 2 yrs ago I ordered this book off Amazon - it having been a good 15 years or so since I'd read it. The day it arrived, I came home from work, tore open the package, stood at the table (still wearing my coat), and - from merely skimming through the last 5 pages - starting CRYING, again! Haha! Needless to say, this is quite a moving tale, and not quite as morbidly depressing as I may be painting it - it also has a solid moral (a child's first lesson in empathy through the care of a stray cat) and a hopefull and sweet epilogue...

Summary: Great influence
Review: I was a 4th grader in a lot of trouble and detached from school. Our librarian gave this book to me and I read it hundreds of times that year and the next. I rememberd it only recently. I now work as an international photojournalist and assume that Gordon Parks images kept me intersted in literacy as a child and had a profound impact on the course of my current career. This book was to me what the kitten was to J.T.- a saviour.

Summary: i have never forgotten this book
Review: in elementary school we actually watched this as a movie too. this was one of the most profound books that i have ever read. it would make me sob! but it is such a great book to encourage compassion and remind "tough" children that it is ok to be tender and to show that you love something...

Summary: Great influence
Review: We are now reading this book in my 6th grade class. The students have difficulty reading and this book is perfect. Good readers will like it, too. I remember seeing the movie on television back in the '70s when I was a kid and thought it was awesome! It is not available at this time, but the book contains many scenes and much dialogue. Truly wonderful introduction to inner city life as seen the the eyes of a fourth grader. GET IT!

Summary: We loved this book.
Review: We think that children should read this book because they can learn important lessons from it. One of the lessons is that you should never steal something that is not yours because it's not yours, and it's against the law. In the story J.T. steals a radio from a red convertible. The second lesson we learned is to care about others, not only about yourself. In the book J.T. cares about Bones, a black and white alley cat that he finds in the junkyard. In conclusion, something happens to Bones that you would never expect. If you want to find out more, read J.T. by Jane Wagner. The photos are unforgetable and help to tell the story.
