Rating: Summary: Will a lonely girl's love for a critically ill baby endure? Review: A beautiful story of the "poor little rich girl", Desi, and how through her Aunt Clare, starts volunteering at ChildCare, where 5 abandoned babies live. But these are not ordinary babies. They all test HIV+. She grows to love Alicia, a tiny AIDS baby of 5 months, and Alicia returns that love. Desi becomes almost like a mother to Alicia and is shocked and devastated when she realizes that AIDS does kill. But the tragedy results in a better relationship between Desi and her mother and the easing of her mother's pain over the sad memories of Matthew, the SIDS baby of 16 years ago. It was so sad and so beautiful the same time. I never really understood AIDS until I read this book. Beautiful.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever read--a real tearjerker. Review: Baby Alicia is Dying is an awesome book about a young girl who volenteers to work in a home for HIV positive babies. She finds a specialplace in her heart for a young child who, through no fault of her own, is born HIV positive. This girl explores the ups and downs of baby Alicia'sdisease. The lesson in the end is an important one. She learns that things happen to people that is not their fault. There will always be a special place in my heart for baby Alicia
Rating: Summary: A True Tear-Jerker Review: I just finished this book, and it was WONDERFUL!!! It was really sad, of cource, but still a beautiful story. It really makes you want to reach out and try to help sick babies like Desi did, becuase it makes you realize that even though most HIV positive babies won't live to see their first birthday, it's still very important to fill their short little lives with love and happiness. This book was heart breaking, but wonderful. And I loved reading about Desi and Brian! And it had a bittersweet, but nice, ending. A diffenent must-read!!!
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK!!! Review: Lurlene really hit a number on this one. This is the 5th book I've read by her and so far I think it's her best book. It is very well written and you feel like you can relate to the main character Desila so well. It is a very touching and kind book and I think every teenage girl should have the experince of reading this book.
Rating: Summary: It's a great book. Review: Of the 15 books I've read by Lurlene McDaniel, this one is the best because it involves babies and diseases. It made me cry in the end. Alicia is a cute baby who is HIV positive because her teenage mom did drugs. Even though I knew how the book would end, it kept me reading because the main character's home life was mixed-up. Her mother didn't want her working with HIV positive babies but she did anyway because she fell in love with them. This book made me think about being a pediatrician. It is a must-read. :) Bethany, grade 7
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK!!! Review: One of my favorite books is Baby Alicia Is Dying. It was an awesome book!!! It is about a girl that decides to volunteer at an organization that deals with HIV-Positive and aids babies that are very sick and possibly dying. After she continues going, she falls in love with one particular baby, Alicia. Every open chance she gets she goes to visit Alicia. She is like a mom to her. she loves Alicia with all of her heart but is very sad to think she could die. You should read this book to find out more. Lurlene McDaniel is the author of it and many other great books, so check them out. Like I said they're awesome!
Rating: Summary: Baby Alicia Is Dying Review: The novel Baby Alicia is Dying, is a very good book. This novel is about a teenage girl, named Desi, a volunteer at a ChildCare center. No body likes the fact that she is volunteering to help HIV-positive babies. She has conflicts at school and home because no one understands how much she loves working at the ChildCare center.
Rating: Summary: Baby Alicia Is Dying Review: This book is one of the best books I've read from the author Lurlene McDaniel. This book is about Desi and her new baby friend Alicia. She is a remarkable baby who is HIV positive, she doesn't seem like she is sick and doesn't act like it either but she is like most of the other babies in the remarkable book. Desi's aunt works with these sickly babies and infants and Desi fell in love with Alicia and the other babies and wanted to work there. Well I am not going to tell you the whole story about the wonderful baby and this wonderful girl, Desi but I am going to tell you this if you read this book you will want to read ALL of Lurlene McDaniel books.
Rating: Summary: A Touching Story Review: This book was the one that made me cry the most. This was a lovely touching story, I have a daughter of my own and I love her so much. I'm so happy to have her that this story touched me so much. The first book I ever read by Lurlene McDaniel was Six Months to Live, and after that, I have her whole collection. I'm 21 years old and still enjoy reading her books. I am just missing about three books of her collection and that is because they are out of print. Whenever I go to the bookstore, I head straight to the young adult section. I recommend all of Lurlene McDaniel's books. I've read them all about three times, and I have my 14 years sister attached to these books too.
