Rating: Summary: 12 year old reader from KY Review: 11 year old, Sara-Kate, and 9 year old, Hillary, find there lives full of magic and suspense as they work on the mysterious elf village. Hillary finds herself walking slowly up the stairs of Sara-Kates house. When she gets there she sees a light flowing from beneath the door. She walks toward the door to find... well you will have to find that out for yourself. Later on in the book Hillary begins to be really good friends with Sara-Kate. They were at a party at Sara-Kate's house when Hillary asked her if she was an elf, but before she could answer there was a knock on the door. This is a wonderful book that teaches you that you can be friends with any one. It doesn't matter how different they are from you. All in all, I recommend this this book to people who believe in fairytales.
Rating: Summary: Afternoon of the elves Review: A fiercely poor Sara-Kate claims that elves live in her garden. Hillary chooses to accept the fantasy and the friendship, but at a cost. Despite the Newberry Honour, this is a good, not great book, and lovers of fantasy should note that it is really more about friends than fairies, and it is a relatively dark work, not whimsical or lighthearted. Nonetheless, it's an interesting and enjoyable, if not particularly indelible read. Note: a 3 star ranking from me is actually pretty good; I reserve 4 stars for tremendously good works, and 5 only for the rare few that are or ought to be classic; unfortunately most books published are 2 or less.

Rating: Summary: Awsome! Full of a different kind of magic. Review: First you need a small summary to understand where I am coming from in this review. This book is about two girls a 3rd grader Hillary and a 5th grader Sara-Kate.No one really likes Sara-Kate. Everybody makes fun of her because of how strange she is , her rundown house, and her clothes.Until one day something extraordinary happens and Hillary and Sara-Kate become friends. Soon Hillary discovers Sara-Kate's secret. Then things take a sharp turn for the worst. I liked this book because it is very different than every other book I've ever read.I liked it because of what a good friend is to Sara-Kate. This story is full of mystery , friendship , and surprise. It opens a whole new world for people. I recommend this book for everyone not just children.
Rating: Summary: I thought it was about elves at first.... Review: I checked this book out because I am very much into kids' fantasy, and I wanted to read about elves. Unfortunately, I was wrong. FORTUNATELY, I found a wonderful book. This book is about Hillary, who is jolted from her comfortable, easy upper-class surroundings by the class oddity, a girl called Sara-Kate who says that there are elves living in her overgrown backyard. Even though her snobby parents are clearly uneasy with this new friendship, Hillary comes to see Sara-Kate--and soon discovers a sad, and all too realistic, secret that her friend has been keeping. This is not a fantasy book. Rather, it is the journey of two young girls, one who is secure, and one who is frightened and alone, but hides it under the guise of her own little world. It's a sad, sweet story, one that every kid should check out.
Rating: Summary: An enchanting story filled with magic and exciment Review: I love this book because it was so good. I can't actually tell if it was a sad ending or a happy ending. You can't ever hate this book because it has a great (or the greatest) plot. The first part of the book was Hilary and her best friends hates Sarah-Kate. but Hilary is beginning to like her. Sara-Kate had found elves building houses. Hilary was the only one who can go over and look. but her friends don't agree... So, read the book to find out!
Rating: Summary: Surreal, enchanting, and more than a little odd. Review: This is a wonderful book that will stay with you long after you read it. As a child I was enchanted by the descriptions of the elves tiny houses. A book that comes alive in so many ways, it's the answer to any whimsical child's reading needs.
