Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A nice supplemental book on the Super Bowl for NFL fans Review: The Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Books are visual delights, but the subject of the Super Bowl does not exactly play to the strong suits of the series. This volume not only tries to deal with the Super Bowl as the world's most popular one-day sporting event, but also from the historical perspective, starting with the NFL Championship first played in 1933 to the thrilling final play of Super Bowl XXIV with the Titan's Kevin Dyson stopped on the 1-yard line as the St. Louis Rams won their first title. But the more you know about past Super Bowls the more you will enjoy this book, because most of the time the two-page spreads are devoted to three Super Bowls. The closer you get to the present the more the color photographs are of key plays rather than key players. After looking at how the first Super Bowl was born, the first half of the book is devoted to the games I through XXIII. Then the second half of the book covers various aspects of the big event, such as Super Bowl rings and collectibles, along with the pregame and halftime shows. Then the book ends with a look at Super Bowl XXXIV. For football fans it will be the pictures more than the information that will make them enjoy this book. Like the end paper illustration by Merv Corning, "Super Bowl" is filled with neat little things you have probably never seen before, such as the commemorative lunch box reporters got for covering Super Bowl II and the Wheaties box the Denver Broncos would have seen on shelves if they had won Super Bowl XXII (Instead the honor went to the Redskins). However, as neat as those things are, that is not exactly what you would want to be the main selling point for this book. If you are a rapid NFL fan who can immediately say what the teams were and what the final score was as soon as somebody shouts out a roman numeral, then "Eyewitness: Super Bowl" would be a nice supplmental book for your football library.
