Summary: My daughter likes it but...
Review: (...)First of all... the story line leaves much to be desired. Violet is searching for the biggest puddle of them all (which turns out to be a mirror-like thing at the end). All the pictures on each page look pretty similar.

For a baby, this book isn't all that great. The pictures are too complicated, and not very different, and there isn't much in the way of really familiar things in the pictures.

My daughter is 17 months old and I just got it a couple weeks ago. She likes it, she likes to point at the birds in the pictures, and at a few of the objects that she knows. She's not quite interested in stories yet, and is more into pictures of things she can tell you what they are. This book has some of that, but we have other books that she likes a lot better.

I'd say if anything, it's for a baby at least my daughter's age or older. There are much better Baby Einstein books for the really wee ones (Neighborhood Animals, Dogs, Cats).

Summary: Great Dialogic reading model
Review: If you are a parent applying Dialogic Reading (do a search, it's powerful), or an ECE or elementary teacher training staff, this is a great book...the Prompt, Expansion. and Review steps are built right into the pictures and text. All you have to do is add the "Evaluate" step after prompting. You don't have to know anything about that though to enjoy this book with your child. Great language and concept building, as well as enticing illustrations. Sturdy board book, I'd say ages 2- 7 depending on how you use it.
