Summary: A great triumph of a horse story
Review: Black Gold is a top-rated horse story told with heart, about a wonderful race horse with a will to win that ends up being stronger than anything else imaginable. Marguerite Henry's book is one of the best she has written. From childhood to adulthood, it will satisfy any horse lover's desire for a perfect story with a hero to remember.

Summary: "It was the Best!"
Review: Fantastic! I couldn't put the incredible book down, Black Gold! It was so exciting, and yet so sad, so I got my part in mixed emotions. It kept me hooked until the very end by telling me this enchanted, but true, story about a beautiful small black colt with a gigantic heart, his bold jockey, and his daring trainer. It's kind of like Sea Biscuit, except with an unexspected ending. This book will keep you hooked from the beginning to the end, and promises you a great memorable story to treasure for life!

Summary: Black Gold, the Champion in Our Hearts
Review: Filled with excitement, sorrow, and happy moments, this true story is bound to awaken your heart. What book could this be? Black Gold of course! The story's about a small Thoroughbred colt that seemed to have no potential, but turned out to be one of the greatest Thoroughbreds of all time! With the careful hands of Jaydee, Black Gold's determined jockey, Black Gold finishes his last race with "three legs and a heart."
In the beginning, Jaydee and Black Gold have two separate stories in the same book. In fact, Black Gold doesn't even come into the story until a few chapters in. His mother, U-see-it, wins her owner, and soon to be Black Gold's owner, purses that just grow and grow. Black Gold's soon to be jockey shows that he will never give up right in the beginning of the book. The ending has a horrid feel to it, but still Marguerite Henry, the auther will warm your heart in a way that is unforgettable.
Black Gold shares the message that you can never give up, no matter how hard the times are. When Black Gold is in serious pain, he doesn't give up. When Jaydee is put down, he doesn't give up, and when anyone has a challenge, they shouldn't give up either. They should overcome it with bravery and strength.

Summary: "It was the Best!"
Review: I am glad to see so many people interested in the Black Gold story. Unfortunately, there are a few details in the book that should have been corrected. The only man that knew the exact story passed away in August. To the person that suggested a movie be made, I agree, but would like to see the filmmaker talk to our family before starting. I can straighten one thing out. Pop Holcomb, Millard Holcomb, was a very strong, revered man but not a large burly type of man as the book suggests. It is a wonderful story but I wish Uncle Son could have told it to you.

Summary: Black Gold, the Champion in Our Hearts
Review: I first read this book when I was ten years old -- many many years ago. It was the first book I cried over, and while reading the other reviews, I find I was not the only one who cried about this story of a beautiful and courageous race horse. One of of my all-time children's classics!

Summary: Loved it!
Review: I loved this book some much that I used it for my last book report. I think that this book is definatly, no doubt, one of the best books that I ever read.

Black Gold really demonstrated every ounce of heart that he possessed. I think that he really put heart into winning the Derby. Nevertheless, he tried his best in the Salome Purse.

Black Gold really carries the trait of determanation. By just reading the part on how his leg snapped completely, and Black Gold continued to run with three legs, I was crying. It made me sad that more damage was being done and it made me joyful on how he demonstrated as much heart as he could. This reminds me of Charismatic.

My favorite words was when Black Gold crossed the wire, the caller cried my favorite words -- "He finished it! He finished it with three legs and a heart!" What a horse! was my thought.

I hope that you will read this book. It had excellent grammer and vocabulary. If you love horses and racehorses, and purest of heart I reccomend this book to you.

Summary: One of my favorite books!
Review: This book is all about a courageous horse named Black Gold. This was a very good but sad story. The boy is devoted to his horse and cares very much for Black Gold's health-even more than the trainer. An accident happens to Black Gold that was expected because the trainer would not let Black Gold have surgery. This is an awesome book!

Summary: I LOVED IT!
Review: This is a story about a small stallion named Black Gold. He may be small, but he isn't bad. This is a heart breaking story. The boldest words I remember are the end. Black Gold's leg snapped because of a hoof crack. The words that I will always remember is: "He finished the race with three legs and a heart" That had made me cry. People of all ages should enjoy this book. Take my advice and BUY THIS BOOK!

Summary: A book any horse person will love!
Review: This YA classic is a favorite of millions, but the true story is even more amazing. It was Osage oil vs. Sinclair Oil. And Sinclair Oil's jockey tried to put the Indian's jockey over the fence. I presented the genealogy of the Osage family and told the story briefly in INDIAN BLOOD, vol. 2. Osage elder Richard Freeman, who was in his mother's arms at the Kentucky Derby back in 1924, went on to become a horseman and a diplomat and and an example of what a man should be. The folks re-making SEABISCUIT should take a look at doing BLACK GOLD: THE TRUE STORY.
