Rating: Summary: Good... Review: Beautiful, nice, and intelligent are all words used to describe Melissa Austin, the main character of "Too Young to Die." She's a junior in high school - and made the Brain Bowl team - a major accomplshment because only seniors make the team! She'll be the first junior ever! When Melissa starts to feel sick and she gets mysterious bruises on her legs, she goes to visit the doctor, and the diagnosis is almost unbearable: she has lukemia. When Melissa starts to go through chemo treatments, she's always sick and her beautiful hair is falling out. During her chemo treatments, she meets Ric, a college boy who is missing a leg due to bone cancer, and Rachael, a spunky four year old with cancer...but loads of spirit. Melissa's family is great, and her best friend Jory is always at her side. Jory tells her about the boy in school that Melissa likes, and Michael (Melissa's brother) tries his best to comfort her. I liked this book, but it's pretty predictable, and I really couldn't stand the relationship that Melissa and Michael share. It's too close and lovey-dovey...in a way, it seems sort of incestious. Overall grade: B+
Rating: Summary: Highly moving and inspirational novel Review: I recommend this book to everyone because this book says that if you have hope you can get through anything. Another reason would be that it was a great suspense story and has romance. For example when Ric kept asking Melissa if she would go to California with him. She kept saying no. Ric just wouldn't leave Melissa alone. Every time he went to visit her he would ask her, "Will you go to California with me? Come on!" Another example is when Brad Kessings was bringing Melissa flowers when she was in the hospital. Every time he went to visit her, he got flowers for her. They weren't just any ordinary flowers they were pure red roses. He always added a little romantic note with it. Most of the notes that he put with the roses said, "I hope you get well soon, from the bottom of my heart." In conclusion if you are interested in suspense and romance novels, read this book. I sure did enjoy it and you will to.

Rating: Summary: Too Young To Die Review: Melissa Austin is a normal girl with not so normal problems. Melissa is sixteen and is faced with a terrible disease. She uses the disease to find herself and become stronger. This book is a great book because it uses so much detail in discribing situations. You almost feel the pain the pain that Melissa goes through. The author allows you to get in touch with Melissa and feel what she feels. This book is different from the other books that I have read in the since that I have never read a book that has so much feeling and compassion. The book touched me in many ways. I thought it was a very good book and would reccomend it to any one with a soft heart, and likes happy endings. Melissa has a really hard time dealing with her disease. "It was if he'd told her it was her fault she hadn't been forwarned about her diagnosis. Her anger flared again."(p62) She tried to blame everything for her being sick. When finally she came to terms with the tragity she was faced with. This book would not appeal to everyone. If you do not like sappy stories this book is not for you. I deffanitly think this is womens book.
Rating: Summary: Good Read Review: The book that I read was very good. It had it's strong points. I really like to read books by this author. I like how she puts very relistic words into her writing. I also like how there are funny, sad, happy, and scary parts. It is like a mix of all the emotions. I think that especially this book, along with all her others are a "page-turner". I liked how in this book her(Melissa) friend (Jory) and family was there to help her though everything, and how even though things got rough people stood by her. I enjoyed how she explained how if felt to have to live with cancer. To wake up one morning and feel perfect then the next day have unnkown buruses, cuts that wont stop bleeding and very emotional days. Also, one of my favorite parts is when she met a young girl and they were strong and supported eachother. (...) I think it was just a book on strength and hanging on even though things are really hard. But also, work for what you believe in, even if it takes all you got. It is forsurly a book that I would read again!

Rating: Summary: Too Young to Die Review: Too Young to Die By: Lurlene McDaniel Reviewed by: J.Ku Period: 1 Melissa Austin is 16 years old. One day she was perfectly fine, the next day she had bruises all over her legs. She was constantly getting tired. She was one of the smartest students in high school. Her teachers encouraged her to try out for the Brain Bowl. Without a surprise, she made it onto the team. When her parents took her to the doctor to check out her bruises, the doctor said that Melissa¡¦s red blood count were low and her white blood count were high. After that discovery Dr. Pace transferred Melissa to the hospital. In the hospital, they did a bone marrow aspiration on Melissa. The next thing they knew, Melissa was diagnosed with lymphocytic leukemia, a form of cancer. When she was in the hospital after she received the devastating news, a guy named Ric hobbles over to her. Ric told her about what chemotherapy does to your hair, so Melissa had Jory, her best friend, cut her hair for her. When she started chemo, the rest of her hair all fell out. After weeks and weeks of chemo, she finally got into remission. Her life never went back to normal. I really liked this book because it teaches you about friendship, bonding, and friendliness. I learned a lot when I read this book. The friendship between Melissa and Jory got stronger when Melissa was diagnosed with leukemia. Melissa could always trust in her friend. When Melissa was in need for hair, Jory bought the most expensive wig there was. ¡§Jory held a wig, a fall of hair that was rich and black, and incredibly long.¡¨ I disliked this book because reading about Melissa going through chemotherapy made me fell really bad. This book may be fiction, but I still feel really bad that it was her who got cancer and not me. Even if this book may not be true, a lot of it is true in real life. People each day are dying because of cancer. I may not know them, but I feel bad for them. ¡§DeeDee patted her shoulder and handed her a small bowl. ¡¥In case you need to vomit,¡¦ she told her.¡¨ Vomiting during chemo doesn¡¦t sound very good. My favorite part of the book was when the doctor told Melissa that she was in remission. I really like that part because all of the bad events are gone, and now she can try and get on with her life. No more vomiting and chemotherapy treatments. Everything is all better. Life would never be the same like before. Melissa can't go to school without facing a crowd of people. Life would be different from then on.
