Rating: Summary: Not quite up to snuff with the rest of the Bone series Review: Although this prequel to the 'Bone' series isn't quite up to the storytelling standard fans are accustomed to, it still is a recommended read of sorts for the die-hard fan interested in the backstory of Jeff Smith's fantasy epic. The first 3/4's of this book, "The Adventures of Big Johnson Bone, Frontier Hero," delves into the story of the founder of Boneville and how he came to establish his trading post on the Rolling Bone river. Drawn by Jeff Smith, this story looks great but suffers in pacing and tone as it is written by Tom Sniegoski. The last 1/4 of the book deals with a young pig and other assorted forest animals in, 'Riblet,' a very forgettable segment that most readers could easily do without.
Rating: Summary: disappointing Review: I expected so much more from this - it was a really big letdown. I love the rat creatures, but this comic wasn't drawn nearly as well and the quick wit I've come to expect from the Bone series was replaced by something much more dull and predictable. If you love the series, don't get this book.
Rating: Summary: disappointing Review: I'm a huge Bone fan, but this prequel was a letdown. Sniegoski isn't nearly as good a writer as Jeff Smith. The story is repetitive, the humor falls flat, and the dialogue is terrible. The talking monkey is particularly annoying, and has about five times as many lines as necessary. The story doesn't compliment the original series in the way that the excellent Rose series does. Also, the final third of the book is Riblet, a story about a baby boar who beats up rat cratures. Riblet is just...bad. It's drawn by Stan Sakai of Usagi Yojimbo fame, who really can't hold a candle to Jeff Smith for draftsmanship. Smith's typically excellent artwork in the first part of the book is the best thing about this volume, which is otherwise superfluous.

Rating: Summary: Stupid Stupid Rat Tails, I love them Review: The Stupid Stupid Rat Tails is a excellent comic book. I love the way Jeff Smith draws. I have read all his Bone books and Stupid Stupid Rat Tails and I have never been disapointed or let down. I have become one of his biggest fans. The talking monkey Mr Pip is truthfull, I love his wit. The baby creatures of the forest whos parents were ate by the Rat creature queen are cute and cuddley. I just love this comic book.
