Rating: Summary: beyond my expectations for my son! Review: Finding a bible for my preschool son that he can grow into was tricky. Not quite reading and thus not quite ready for the New Adventure Bible, and yet growing out of the illustrated bible story books, this bible fills the void nicely. Do not be fooled by the photo inserts of stills from the Bibleman videos; the actual Bible itself is meaty in the Word and is written at a third grade level. It keeps my boy still enough to read him scripture. The notes are also impressive and I will admit to more than one occassion of dragging out my beloved NIV and my KJV bibles and comparing the translations. I have yet to be disappointed. The introduction also proved to be enlightening as it described their translation methodology. I was very impressed by the pedogogy to keep it relevant to a "Y2K" 8 year old's level along with it not being a paraphrase version (thank goodness). As a mom who wants the Word to be part of our lives, a contemporary yet accurate version was just what we needed. It does more honor to the title "Bibleman" than the cute (albeit cheesy) videos do. I am glad its filling a void!
