Summary: Wonderland, Fairyland and Blyton
Review: It's a pity that Enid Blyton never quite got on in the States; I believe the Famous Five series is the only popular one. But Blyton has much more interesting tales. I grew up with her books, I learned to read with her stories. To my mind, a fairy that lives down in the garden who slips through the door of an oak tree to visit the Enchanter on the other side of the hill and returns by way of the steam engine of little Billy's playroom is but part of Blyton's charm to magicked the reader into believing in a child's fairyland. These are simple tales of magic or even magic realism, for it is nothing strange that your dog talks or the cat meows or why buttercups are yellow. Blyton has a steady hand when penning a tale or three and the world is truly lucky that her books are all over the world.
