Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Recommended for ages 4 to 8
Review: Jenny and her brother Sam are scared! The TV played frightening news all morning, Jenny's piano lesson was canceled, and Mom forgot to make lunch. Something bad is going on and the kids want to know what it is and how not to be so scared. Mom and Dad can help them feel better. In Jenny Is Scared!: When Sad Things Happen In The World, psychologist Ann Rasmussen insightfully employs a picturebook format to explain how young children respond to violence and tragedy, provides concrete suggestions for helping children feel safer, and offers families ideas for making the world a better place for children. Nicely illustrated throughout by Cary Pillo, Jenny Is Scared! is a particularly appropriate reading for ages 4 to 8, and a very highly recommended addition to school and community library collections in this time of terrorism, wars, street gang confrontations, and the other violent events that permeate radio, television, and the movies.
