Summary: THE EASIEST KNITTING book that I've ever bought!
Review: I have been trying to learn how to knit for a few years now. My roomate at college tried to teach me how. The problem is that I don't know what to do on my knitting project, after I graduated and never see my roomate again. So I have a half-finished project that have been sitting in my basement for almost 2 years now. I picked up this book because it looked less intimidating than other knitting books. I started knitting right away once I got home. So far, I have done 2 projects and going to do some more! I LOVE THIS BOOK! It is the EASIEST knitting book EVER! Don't let the negative review throw you off. Get this book and start knitting already! :)

Summary: not a good first knitting book...
Review: I was originally attracted to this book over other beginner books because it included everything I needed to get started. I couldn't even get past "casting on" because the instructions are not detailed enough. It only tells you how to make the first stitch, then you are expected to be able to do the second on your own. The second stitch is different from the first, so it is very difficult and frustrating to continue. Also, there are some typos in this book. There are little side notes on the pages that direct you to other pages in the book, but the wrong page number is printed!! The last thing about this book that I don't like are the annoying photographs of girls posing with knit items. They just take up space that could have been used for more detailed diagrams and instructions. The look of the book makes it seem like it is geared towards children, but it says on the box that it is not for kids under ten. I would not recommend this book for children or adults who are trying to learn to knit on their own. It would probably be a better book to combine with the teachings of an actual human. I would recommend "Knitting for Dummies" instead. It has simple instructions, along with lots of other information and great projects and will better prepare you to knit with patterns not from the book.

Summary: The EASIEST knitting book EVER***** :0)
Review: If your interested in learning how to knit without tearing your hair out than this book is for you. There is no easier explanation for how to do a slipknot.I'm truly embarassed for Vogue Knitting book authors, they cannot teach as easily and simpler than this book! A slipknot from Vogue knitting book is ridiculously over-complicated.With this book expect bliss happiness and knowing how to do a slipknot(hair intact).

Summary: Thirty-something who LOVES this book
Review: Oh glory, this book/kit is fantastic! I've shared it with several other newbie knitters and recommended it to many more. Worth every penny, and now that Amazon.com is selling it even cheaper (I paid about 25 bucks) - it is such a great investment. This kit, coupled with an amazing website ( http://www.KnittingHelp.com/ ) will give you everything you need to begin your knitting adventure. Honestly, do not let the negative review sway you - if you purchase t his kit then pass the book on to someone else, believe me - it will still be valuable on many different levels. I highly recommend using needles like the ones in the kit (bamboo) --- go and purchase some CLover Takumi brand bamboo needles and some fun yarn, then settle in for a weekend of easy projects. Trust me, you won't be sorry :o)

Take care & happy holidays!

Summary: tried learning for years FOUND SUCCESS WITH THIS BOOK
Review: Ok I am 32 and a avid crocheter...but I have allways wanted to learn to knit. I think I have purchased every kit and book combo out there plus the knitting for dummies book ...none worked for me. My last hope and the fact that I had a 40% off coupon made me give one last try with this book ..AHHHH success in less than 20 minutes I was casting on and knitting. Please, this is the easiest , simplest book I have found and trust me I have spent a $$$$ on trying to learn to knit. Also I LOVE love the bamboo needles included in this kit ( I allways found the metal ones too slippery) The text and hand drawn pictures make learning SUPER EASY !

The few things that I found annoying were minor quibbles:
1) This is a basic book... very basic .I think you will need a more advanced book once your skills progress. I would have liked more tools and instructions on shaping, pattern reading and a few more advanced techniques.
2) The yarn included in kit is in the most annoying skeins that must be wound into balls before use or they will end up in a big kink!
I say buy it and learn to finally knit !
