Summary: The Crime Team
Review: My third grade class and I are completing our unit on Realistic Fiction books. I chose Julian Secret Agent because my students loved Julian's Glorious Summer. The children enjoyed this book for so many reasons. The vocabulary used was contemporary and that made the story easier for the children to understand. As a result of their ease with comprehension the children began to participate in class discussions with a great deal of enthusiasm. The short chapters also helped to make the children feel comfortable with reading and that gave them the encouragement to want to read further. Additonally, the children enjoyed the illustrations because they were so closely aligned with the text that they couldn't wait to see what would happen next. Lastly, the children were able to appreciate the humor in the book because it was written at their level. I found that reading this book with my students made teaching reading an absolute joy. My class and I highly recommend reading this book because you will beg for more.
