Not only does the author commit egregious mistakes in attributing illustrated costumes to specific periods, the dates for periods that accompany the illustrations are not given. Nineteenth century examples hardly represent the tremendous changes is fashion that modernization brought about. Let my nine year-old color the pictures? Yes. Let him think it represents accurate period costume? Not on your life. Dover usually does much better than this.
