Rating: Summary: Great intro to primary sources Review: I am a teacher who uses The Roman World in my middle school history class. It sums up the key points of Roman studies in succinct 2-4 paged illustrated chapters, followed by two to four questions that are thought-provoking as well as reflective. Diagrams are clear as well. What's really great is that each chapter gives snippets of three or four primary sources discussing the theme at hand (for example, the Roman urge to power) from a variety of points of view, giving the book a sophisticated yet concrete introduction to basic history studies. Teachers will also find that the format lends itself to lively classroom discussions, rather than teacher lecturing at students. Too bad it's so pricy!
