Summary: Cute book, but not to be read aloud
Review: I have to start by saying these Amelia Bedelia books aren't my favorite. They actually get on my nerves quite a bit and I almost refuse to read them to my toddler. However, he seems to like them quite a bit so they get tossed in the mix from time-to-time. If this is your first experience with the Bedelia series, then you'll probably want to wait and keep them for your children when they're learning to read. They're probably hysterical to new readers but no one in real life could possibly be a stupid as this woman is portrayed in this book. She takes everything literally and does some very, very strange things like look for a french horn and comes up with a helmet that has two horns, a wind instrument to her is a fan, and the string section is a piece of rope. And I don't understand why everyone in the book has to call her by her entire name each and every time. When you're reading it aloud, it just gets kinda strange with the repetition. If you're buying this for a new reader, then I'm sure it's a good find. The writing is just fine and I know kids will find it funny. But, if you want a book to read to a toddler that has some sort of learning involved, pass on this one and go for the Elmer the Elephant series.
