Summary: A Great Life Lesson
Review: "Cages" is a great story about our time. It doesn't exactly talk about September 11th or kidnapping, but it teaches you that when you do something so terrible that it was made a law so you don't do it, there are conciquinces.

Kit Hathaway is a normal girl who has a family who she can't exactly relate to. And who doesn't? She has a drunk stepfather, Wayne Gillete, after Kit's father died whenever she was four. She is hoping for a part in the school play to be considered for the 9th grade scholarship. She loses to a girl named Marcia Homer, who is very self-centered and brags about her part in the play. Kit gets very mad after Wayne calls her an animal, so the next day she sneaks to the mall. She sees Marcia and shoplifts a bracelet to show-off. She pays a fine and goes to a court with her mother, Dorothy.

Apparently, that is the same night as her best friends birthday party with hot air ballons. She lies about having something else to do instead of that and she goes to the court and they would erse it after she does 20 hours of work at the Humane Society. She does it and really wants to adopt a dog named Lady, but she was caged and was apparently killed! How tragic!

In the end, she has to tell more lies on top of her lies. She tells everybody, and her parents go into the hospital. Talk about a tragic story. But, she wins the 9th grade scholarship. It is a great story about how we can uncage ourselves.

Summary: "Cages"
Review: I have never shoplifted or worked in an animal shelter, yet Peg Kehret makes you feel as if you were right by Kits side every waking minute. You feel her happiness, anger, and excitment, from when she loses the part in the school play to putting up with her drunkin stepdad, and the plot of the story the shoptlifting. It's a well writen story, that is filled with emotion.
The theme of this book is trying to move on after a few messups in life. Kit during the book often wonders, can she ever make up for her mistakes? Kit has alot going on in her life. Her father died and her mother remarried a man named Wayne. Wayne is a drunkie and Kit can't stand him, But Dorthy,Kits mom, still defends him.
The characters of this book make this story an emotional rollarcoaster. Kit and Tracy are the main characters of the book, Though Mrs. Fenton is equally importent. Mrs. Fenton turns out to be more than just Kits English teacher. Marcia, the girl who ends up getting the part makes the book what it is.
This book was only one of the great books that Peg Kehret wrote. "Nightmare Mountain" was another great Peg Kehret book that I read. So.....Whats the twist that makes "Cages" so good. You'll have to read the book to find out !

Summary: Cages
Review: In the book Cages the author Peg Kehert never lets you put the book down. Teenager Kit Hathaway got caught shoplifting. Kit was mad and decided to shoplift because she did not get the lead part in the play and her step dad was drunk and called her an animal.
Kit's best friend Tracy was having a birthday party and it was going to be the best one yet. It was a hot air balloon birthday party. When Tracy gave Kit the invitation Kit looked at the date and time and it was when she was supposed to appear in juvenile court then.
Kit doesn't know what to do because she can definetly not miss her appearence in court and she doesn't want to tell Tracy about
shoplifting because when she gets her punishment and follows it, it will be erased from her record like she didnt even shoplift.
Tracy was mad at Kit for not telling her why she couldn't make it to her birthday party so that made her upset but then when she was in court her mom told her"I have always been proud to call you my daughter but tonight i am not". That made Kit feel even worse and she wanted to prove her mom wrong.Kit's punishment was to do a certain amount of hours of community service. Kit chose to volunteer at the dog shelter.
During the time at the dog shelter Kit got attatched to one of the dogs named Lady. Lady has been there for awhile so if she was not adopted soon then she was going to be killed. If you want to know what happens to Tracy and Kit being friends, if Lady lives, and if Kit earns back her trust from her mom you will have to read the book Cages yourself.

Summary: Great Reading
Review: Kehert has masterfully involved the reader in this tale of teenage frustration. Readers will feel Kit's shame and despondence through realistic dialogue and painful interpersonal relationships. The character of Kit is well developed, believable, and inspires empathy and sympathy. She must overcome her fear of admitting her mistake, deal with an emotionally detached stepfather, and forgive her mother for choosing to remain "caged". Although the main character is a high school freshmen, the book could easily be used at the 7th/8th grade level. The content offers an abundant supply of discussion topics. An added bonus is Kit's experience at the Humane Society. This is compelling reading.

Summary: Cages
Review: Kit Hathaway, an 8th grader who loves acting and animals,is trying out for a play in school. Marcia her enemy gets the lead roll which she wanted. She then shoplifts at a fancy department store and eventually gets caught. Her punishment is to work at the Humane Society. And ever since she stole the bracelet, she thinks everything is going wrong. She definitely thinks she lost the 9th grade scholarship. Her stepfather Wanye has binges every month that go for about three to five days. Also Dorothy, her mom, makes her feel bad too because she sticks up for Wanye too much. Kit meets a new friend at the Humane Society and finds out that her life is not in others hands;it's in hers. My opinion is that Cages is a 5 star book because it inspires me to grow up and think positively. It makes me notice the problems that come up and that sometimes problems help your future be better. This book makes me want to change my opinion of things and my "LIFE".

Summary: It's a sad, but good book
Review: The first time I read this book, I cried at some parts. It's about a girl who has an alcoholic step-dad and a work-aholic mom. She feels so alone, she steals something, gets caught, and winds up doing community work at a local animal shelter. She falls in love with a dog, and since she wants it to have a home, but can't keep it herself, she wants to surprise the shelter workers by giving it a home, as the statistics for animals getting homes are awful. It's a REALLY good book. I recommend this book to every pet lover in the world!

Review: This book was great! It's about a girl who steals a bracelet because she doesn't get a lead in a school play and her step-father's being really mean and the girl who got the lead is spoiled and bratty. The girl, Kit, gets sentenced 20 hours working at a humane society, where she falls in love with a dog. I'm not gonna tell the ending! It's a great book and i recommend it to everybody!

Summary: unlock your cage today
Review: This is a GRRRREEEEAAATTT book!! It has a good point where we as people can get trapped daily, & sometimes we dont try to unlock our cage. Kit Hathaway is like a lot of young teenagers who get upset when there parents drink or do drugs or whatever. I think when they added Lady to the story it made it even better. It showed how you can attach to a thing & then all the sudden it can be taken away. In the end when Dorathy got sick & wayne & kit made up but then wayne got drunk the next day. This book will make you cry if you have a heart
