Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: If Disney is your thing this is a wonderful book for you. It takes Disney characters and puts them into their own little Christmas stories. The stories iclude 101 Dalmations, The Little Mermaid, The Aristocats, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Winnie the Pooh, Bambi, Pinocchio, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Oliver and Company, Dumbo, A Bug's Life, Lady and the Tramp, Mickey Mouse, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Tarzan, Robin Hood, and Toy Story. Each story is enchanting in it's own way, and the illustrations are incredibly beautiful. Bring this book into your home this holiday season. You won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: 2 stars, only because it's Disney Review: The only thing that sells this book is the fact that it's based on Disney charachters we know and love. The stories in the book are so shallow! My four year old likes the pictures, my ten year old wants to know why the only "christmas" thing mentiond in the book is presents! Not worth the money!
Rating: Summary: Stories without heart Review: This is a hardcover colorful storybook with high quality gilded pages. It is the kind of book that grandparents by for their grandchildren with the thought that they are giving a lasting keepsake storybook. Grandparents, parents open the book and read one of the stories, just one before you buy it. In this book Disney took some of its best-loved characters and haphazardly created meaningless Christmas stories for them. None of the authors of these stories are acknowledged and if I helped write them I wouldn't have my name on it either. In the first story the 101 Dalmatian puppies get an explanation of Christmas "people give gifts to those they love." When the Dalmatian puppies see gifts Christmas morning they exclaim, "We are loved." In the Cinderella story she misses the "mess" of "Christmas". The plot of Oliver and Company is also focused on shopping and gift giving. These content for all stories feature long sentences and make the mistake of "telling" instead of "showing" throughout the entire book. For example, "Ariel felt her heart glow with hope" and other such nonsense. I read the entire book looking for something positive to say about at least one of the stories. All I can say is that if a fifth grader wrote the stories I would encourage him/her to keep writing and offer praise and gentle guidance. These stories do not have any values that I would want to share with my children and I won't be reading this book to them. If you want to read to your child about "giving and receiving" I suggest "Apple cake" or the "little house Christmas" which is a collection of true Christmas stories from the Little House series.
Rating: Summary: Terrific holiday complement to standard Disney fare Review: This storybook is an elegant (complete with silver-edged pages) companion to other Disney stories. We have a 2-1/2 year old daughter who loves reading and is enjoying longer, more envolved stories. This book places her favorite characters in holiday stories that are consistent with what she is familiar with. For example, the story of Snow White is set with the seven dwarfs during the time she is staying with them. It is easy to simply say that she stayed with them for some time before the Queen and Prince finds her in the forest. Plenty of stories with all your favorites including Cinderella, Little Mermaid, Hunchback, etc. Each one is 10-20 pages long, so this isn't for kids with short attention spans.
