Summary: Vivid imagery I can still remember as an adult
Review: I bought this book from my elementary school library when it was closing. I believe I was in fifth grade when I read it. I can still remember the vivid scenes in my mind to this day. The first book I couldn't put down and the only book I read in my childhood that I can still remember. I'd love to read it again. I just remember the boy's name to be Otto. I can't remember the girl's name. I remember when she first met Otto, he was living in the woods and would loot trucks that overturned on the nearby highway. Great read.

Summary: What An Impact
Review: I had this book read to me by my third class teacher when I was eight years old. I then borrowed it from the school library and read it and re-read it during the school holidays. Not only is it an adventure to keep young minds captivated, but it's a true story of friendship, one that stays with you throughout your life. I'm now 26 years old and haven't read the book since, but it had such an impact that after all these years, and hundreds of other books later, I can still remember the story, Ellen and Otto and their adventures.

I am now trying desperately to find a copy of this book so I can read it to my nephews and neices.

Who knows? Maybe I'll get lucky and find a copy. It really is quite sad that such a book is out of print...

Summary: Great reading for the next generation!
Review: I read the Silver Crown in 4th grade, and never forgot it. I've been searching for years, and nobody ever heard of it! I though I was losing my mind! Unfortunately, I didn't keep my old books from when I was a kid, and I'm trying to find my old favorites to give to my daughter. It's a shame this book is out of print. For a book to have such an impact on young people, but in a good way, should always be available for future generations to enjoy and learn from it.

Summary: Searching High and Low
Review: I read this book for the first time in second grade. Through the years I have checked it out from the Library to read again. This is one of two books that captured my heart when I was a child. About 5 years ago I decided to obtain a copy of my own, so I could share it with my nieces and nephews. I was so disappointed to find out that the book was out of print. I searched high and low for this book used. ...I was so elated to find out this book is back in print.

This book is full of magical fantasy and captures the reader in a wonderful way. Very few books stay fresh in my mind and this one has been there since the 2nd grade. I recommend this book highly as one of the best children's books I have ever read. Grab them now before they are out of print again. Personally I grabbed two... one for me and one to share. I can't believe the luck of finding it again.

Summary: Worth waiting for
Review: I read this book when I was--gosh, I was either eleven or twelve at the time, and I still remember it now that I'm eighteen going on nineteen. Not in detail, mind you! *L* However, I recall it well enough to let you know that this book is definitely worth waiting for. "The Silver Crown" by Robert C. O'Brien starts out innocently enough with a young girl waking on her birthday to find the mysterious gift of a silver crown waiting for her. From there, however, it goes from strange to downright creepy as the girl (forgive me, I can't remember her name) returns from an errand only to find her home burning and her parents missing. Now it is a race against time as she runs from unknown enemies who want to use her--for only she can harness the power of the crown. Along the way, she meets a younger boy who becomes her companion...as well as a target. Can she save herself and her friend? Are her parents really dead? Is there more at stake than what she originally thought? Perhaps...but the only way for you to really find out is to read the book, right? Trust me, this is a great book, and I myself intend to purchase a copy of "The Silver Crown". You'll like this book, boy or girl, young or old. Well, maybe not too young; "The Silver Crown" might be too intense for children younger than ten, because some of it IS scary. But overall, this is a must-addition to your library, as it will be to mine.

Summary: Still captivating after all these years
Review: Like many of the people who have written reviews here, "The Silver Crown" was read to our class by my third grade teacher when I was 10 years old. I was absolutely fascinated by the story -- completely enthralled with it -- and once we finished reading it as a class I immediately went to the school library, checked it out, and read it again. In my mid-20's I suddenly remembered the book and the tremendous impact it had on me as a child, and I embarked on a campaign to find a copy of my own that I could someday share with my children. Easier said than done! But it was heartwarming to see that so many people have had a similar experience with this remarkable book. Fortunately I now own a copy and have re-read the story several times. Even as an adult I still find it full of mystery, excitement, and intrigue.
