Summary: There are lots of words I would use to descibe these books..
Review: and none of them are good! My mother bought me the entire series of about a bazillion books a couple of years ago. Elsie is supposed to be so sweet and good, but she is whiny and snobby in a holier-than-thou way. My criticisms of the writing would be that Elsie is too persecuted, all the characters are sterotypical, two dimensional, and badly developed. It's also very un-engaging. You want to put it down after the first page. My mom was going to make me read the whole series, but after reading the first book she changed her mind- she only read the first chapter and that was enough! She's going to sell the books ..., and I wouldn't be surprised if they went for dirt cheap. They are that bad!

Review: These books are some of the best books I've ever read! They aren't just fairy tale stories where everyone lives happily ever after. Elsie struggles as she grows up and tries to do the right thing as she faces real hardships. I also like that they were originally written in the 1800's! I am 11 years old and think that other girls my age would really enjoy reading about Elsie.
