Summary: Thomas' Snowsuit
Review: As a Minnesota preschool teacher, I can't tell you how realistic this book is! (in an exagerated way, of course). This book has become a classroom favorite every winter when snowsuits are a way of life. Robert Munsch really knows children and the way they think. Thomas, his teacher, and even the principal have an excitable time getting Thomas into his brown snowsuit to play outdoors. A word of warning: underwear causes fits of hysterical laughter to any 3 to 5 year old!

Summary: spend your money elsewhere
Review: As a parent, this is certainly not a book that I want to read to my kids or one that I want them to read. In the book, Thomas is disrespectful to his mother, teacher and principal. Each adult fights with Thomas trying to get his snowsuit on and loses. In an attempt at being funny, Munsch undermines values that I want to build in my kids. I don't want the time that I spend reading to my kids and the time my kids spend reading will be spent teaching them to be disrespectful and disobedient. Nor do I want them thinking that this is or should be amusing to them. If you still want to read a copy of this book, I know where you can get a copy very cheap, my garbage can!

Summary: Lighten up and enjoy the ride!
Review: I first heard this story in my education class while we were learning how to do shared reading in the classroom. Being read to in the child's perspective was interesting enough, but to have this book read was a blast. The pictures are humorous and the story makes children and adults laugh. Everyone knows that parents make you do something you can't stand. We have all seen "The Christmas Story" with the red-rider bb gun and the infamous overly wrapped for winter younger brother. This book reminds me of that hilarious scene. Once the teacher and the principal get in the act it gets all crazy. In the end, just like you would expect a child to do, he jumps right into his snowsuit when it lets him do something he wants to do, play. This is a sweet story, a good read for children.

Summary: Just as funny for adults as kids
Review: I read this book out loud at our gymnastics training center, and the kids thought it was amusing but the coaches were on the floor! The rollicking humor of Munsch's books makes them ideal read-alouds for parents bored with the "See Spot Run" style. I can also recommend "Moira's Birthday" and "The Paper Bag Princess" but "Thomas' Snowsuit" is the funniest of the bunch.

Summary: A Family Favorite
Review: I'm buying a copy for each of my kids to save for them when they're grown. This book has provided wonderful hours of reading and precious fits of laughter. It's also been an avenue to open conversations about acceptable behavior. I disagree with the review that it teaches children disrespectful behavior, actually I teach my children acceptable behavior and to discern when they are out of line. Thomas is definitely a way for them to bring that lesson home, in a hilarious way! Everyone needs to laugh and I love that this book appeals to the very young (my two year old loves to say no! with Thomas)and to the very old (my grandma read it to the kids the other night and cackled along with them!). Lighten up and enjoy life! That's the message of Munsch!

Summary: Thomas' Snowsuit
Review: This is a GREAT book for reading to kids, with kids, and by kids! The hilarious storyline and repetitive nature keep even the most reluctant reader interested. It's a "laugh till your belly hurts" book!

Summary: Great Laughs!
Review: Young readers and preschoolers love irony as much as adults - that's what the best humor is based upon. Munsch and Martchenko excel in bringing that irony to the printed page in this book. Exageration is at its best as Thomas asserts his independence, and the rhythm of language pairs beautifully with the witty illustrations to keep kids and adults laughing throughout. My kids have treasured this book since it first landed at our house several years ago. As a child psychiatrist, I find it to be a great ice breaker when working with my young patients. It's a great book for breaking out the grins!
