Rating: Summary: O my gosh dont bother Review: Smith, Dick. Babe: The Galliant Pig. Knopf Paperback.118 pages.
Knopf's Babe The Galliant Pig is an inspiring, and heart-warming story about a pig that goes to the Hoggot farm. At this farm Mrs. Hogget is having dreams of a big fat pig that she can make into bacon. The pig's destiny is breakfast until Mr. Hoggot reveals a talent Babe has. He is a sheepherder. Babe is the best sheep dog Mr. Hoggot has ever hade. Shortly after finding babe's talent he is entered in a sheep-dog championship. The audience is confused to see this sheep-pig. Will this galliant pig win the tournament? Babe The Galliant Pig is the most pointless story I have ever read. There is hardly any plot, and the ending was enormously cheesy. I don't recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Truly a classic animal tale Review: Babe captured my heart, as he was trying to save his own skin. This book is truly a classic animal tale, where the creatures take on believable and human emotions and personalities. We see intelligence, fear, hope, and love, in a heartwarming pig, and his other animal friends. The inter-species bond between Babe and his human farmer is delightful! I have read it several times, and each time, see another angle, in this Pig-Shepherd memoir. Should not be limited to any age group, because adults as well as children will be entertained. Arlene Millman author of BOOMERANG - A MIRACLE TRILOGY (The tale of a remarkable Boston Terrier)

Rating: Summary: Love and Gallantry Review: Babe, a pig raised by a sheep-dog, is a polite, earnest and open-hearted creature. His dream to become a sheepherding animal (despite his obvious handicaps) and his kinship with kind Farmer Hoggett save his life and transform the farm, forever changing the relations between the different kinds of animals, as well as between the animals and the humans. A simple, charming and engaging story about the power of love and gallantry.
Rating: Summary: A delightful book! Review: Dick King-Smith has written a real gem! He is a genius at characterization. We are immediately caught up in the contrasting characters of the farmer and his wife. She talks a blue streak with never a pause for breath and turns and twists at great length in long and convoluted sentences that take up half the page, question after question and answering most of them herself. One susinct word suffices her husband. The animal characters are even more rich! The loving mother sheep-dog takes poor little piglet Babe under her "wing". Loving and kind though she may be to Babe, she is completely rude and disdainful towards the "stupid" sheep. Babe learns the power of truly respectful kindness, and totally surpasses the dog in being able to manage the sheep herd and bring out the best in them. As a teacher, I believe this has a message for us. I've seen some "benevolent dictators" in my day, who treat students as simpletons and get as much. Kindness, respect, and assuming intelligence go a lot further!
Rating: Summary: The Best Sheep-pig Ever Review: I had to read Babe in school. I didn't think I'd like it but I really did. I think Babe is very nice. He was always kind to others and never tried to be mean in any way. He got people (sheep) to obey him by just being kind. I think people in the whole world should read Babe and try to be like him.
