Summary: exciting plot with unexpected twists
Review: As a mother of 4 boys, I am always looking for books to engage them. The Wreckers takes an exciting topic and adds unexpected twists to the storyline, creating a good deal of reader curiosity. I found it difficult to resist reading "just one more chapter". The adventures that entertwine the two main characters make for a very enjoyable read. As for the unfamiliar shipping terminology the 5th grade teacher reviewer found cumbersome, I thought it added authenticity to the story. This book can be a fairly quick read, and has all the elements of a suspenseful "read-aloud". I have purchased a copy for my 6th grader's teacher, and have recommended it to several others. I am looking forward to the sequel.

Summary: "The Wreckers"- What a sentsation!
Review: I clearly thought that the book The Wreckers was a thrill-seeking, action-packed, and can't-put-it-down hit. It's about a young teenage boy who winds up in a seawreck off of a coast, where he learns and discovers the legends and tales about the Wreckers who live on that coast. There he conintually tries to rescue his father without getting himself into trouble,or dead. Believe me, if you ever want a good book to read that will keep your attention, then this is the book for you!

Summary: Unbelievable, but exciting.
Review: I thought this book was exciting and educational, but quite unbelievable about what kids are truly able to accomplish on their own.

Summary: Good adventure story, but beware of graphic violence
Review: John and his father had just sailed on a ship for an adventure. During the trip, a terrible storm hit and destroyed it. I seemed as thought John was the only surviver. Everyone else on the ship died. The worse part is, he found out it was some group of people on the island that tried to wreck the ship on purpose. The people spared his life, and John lived there for some time now. He met a friend named Marry. But during the days, John discovers many secrets. He may even find out his father is still alive, but would he be able to save him?

I liked this book because it had adventure, and action almost throughout the whole book. It never became boring and left a lot of suspension in the book that made me want to read more. Like if someone was going to die or not. The whole book was fun and was even more interesting as I read. The part I liked the most about the book was when John was running for his life from the pirates. It had all this action and the author described it very well.

I chose this book, because many people read it, and said it was fun and interesting, especially my teacher. She said that the book was great and fun. My parents also encouraged me to read it. My dad said that he used to read about stories like this, and it was great. That's why I got it.

Summary: Good adventure story, but beware of graphic violence
Review: Many reviewers have commented that this is a good adventure book, but I did not see any reviews that noted that it is quite graphically violent. I used this book recently for a mother-son book group of 5th grade boys. Several of the boys noted that they found the book very disturbing in its graphic imagery -- murders, hangings, rats, etc. and felt that the book was less enjoyable because of it. I would issue a warning that this book is not suitable for young or sensitive children. It is an "easy read" aside from some tough vocabulary, but is very intense.

Summary: Thrilling adventure
Review: Seventh grade English teacher here. I was looking for some extra reading to follow up a class read of Treasure Island. Although some of my students would have difficulty with the language in The Wreckers, I know many of them would love it. I was intrigued with the way Lawrence cast suspicion on all the characters so I didn't know who was trustworthy and who intended evil. In fact, I almost sneaked a peak at the end of the book because I was ao anxious to find out how the story ended. I'm planning to add this title to my classroom library.

Summary: Wreckers Delivers
Review: The Wreckers by Iain Lawrence is one of the best books I have read in a very long time. This book about young John Spencer depicts a raging battle of good and evil, with suprising twists! Iain Lawrence delivers on all levels, and is a fantastic writer! The first book in the High-Seas trilogy, makes you keep reading the series that's bursting with page-turning action!

Summary: OK... really a 3.5
Review: This book starts off on the sea on the boat the Isle of Skye. John and his dad are on cargo ship to take wine to another place to trade. There was a storm and the crew saw some lights. They thought they were leading them to safety but once they went to the lights, the ship became wrecked...
I liked the books suspense. I read this book straight on after I came to the interesting parts. The realism is a main factor that makes this book so good or fun to read. I think 6th graders and people older should read this book.
