Rating: Summary: True Survival Review: "Reality survival" T.V. programs seem pretty tame after reading this story. ANYONE who gets marooned on a desert island could figure out how to survive...for at least a few days. Now try it with four infants. THAT would send most of us over the edge, hmmm? Mary and Jean are only little girls themselves, yet they are faced with the responsibilities of feeding and caring for themselves and four babies. And they do a right fine job of it! I first read this book 40 years ago, when I was about the same age as Mary and Jean. I've saved that book all of these years and re-read it from time to time. It's a delightful story that every little girl should get a chance to read! (Mary and Jean certainly could have taught the folks on Gilligan's Island a thing or two!)

Rating: Summary: the most fascinating book I ever read Review: "Baby Island" was a well written book with an interesting plot. As a young child, I thought this would be really cool to actually go through. I gave this book only 4 stars because even thought it was well written, you cannot beat classic authors such as Tolkien in fiction novels
Rating: Summary: Just wonderful. Review: As a young girl between the ages of 9 - 12, I must have read this book a dozen times. It took the little girl in me and mixed it with the wonder and adventure of every imaginable dream of haveing babies to play with and care for without the need for adults or the reality of the hard world. For whatever reason, Baby Island, has remained in my memories for over 25 years as one of my most treasured books. With all the competition of best sellers and the proliferation of good reading material, the simplicity and entertainment value of Baby Island is unequalled. I want my daughter and neices to "dream" about "Baby Island"
Rating: Summary: Baby Island Review: At the age of nine, I discovered this delightful book on my mother's book shelf. I was immediately captured, from the very first sentence. "Baby Island" is the story of Jean and Mary, two young sisters who love caring for babies. Marooned on an island while enroute to join their father in Australia, the girls are quite suddenly permanently baby-sitting four babies all on their own, with all the perils and misadventures that can occur to anyone in such a situation. How they manage to survive is both fun and charming in this whimsical and engaging story. As a little girl, I found the story encouraging and inspiring, even though I knew it was not a real situation. The girls "keep your chin up" attitude, and genuine capability, is an excellent lesson for all. This is a book that not only children, but their parents as well can enjoy.
Rating: Summary: A Review of Baby Island Review: Baby Island was the best book I ever read. The main characters are Mary and Jean. They are sisters. Elijah and Elisha they're twins. Jonah is an only child, so is Ann Elizabeth. Mr. Perterkin is an honest seaman. They were on a ship and it was going to sink. Mary woke up. The alarm was off. She got Jean up. They got the babies, Elisah, Elijah and Jonah. They got on a lifeboat. Mr. Arlington gave Mary, Ann Elizabeth to hold when he went to get his wife. The sailors lowered down the boat. When they woke up they were on a tropical island. Jean found footprints in the sand. Once when they where looking for the person they found a house. The person turned out nice. He had sheep. He made a path through the woods. Jean was out with the babies. They got lost in a storm. Charley the monkey helped lead the way to Jean. Mr. Peterkin has a chest. He let Jean open it. If you want to know how the story ends and what's in the chest, read the book.
Rating: Summary: Childhood favorite to be read with your kids. Review: I read this book over 20 years ago, and have remembered it vividly. As soon as I could find it, I began reading it to my 5-year-old. Although I have to explain some of the "old-fashioned" references to her, she is as enthralled as I was (and am). This book is just as much fun to read today as it was when I was a child. It is a grand adventure with genuine heros. Mary and Jean are brave and resourceful, and undaunted in their struggle to care for 4 babies on a desert island after a shipwreck. From the mixing of the twins to meeting a "savitch," this book is delightful
Rating: Summary: great memory for me Review: I read this book when it first came out and I still remember that book so well I cant wait to get it and read it all over again
Rating: Summary: Great for boys too Review: My fourth grade teacher read this book to us a chapter at a time and we were all so eager for the next day's reading. One of the very best childhood books ever. Many reviewers are commenting that it is a great girls book, but I and the other boys in class loved it too. I'm 45 now and when I chanced on a copy of Baby Island in a used book store I snatched it up. After all those years it was still a great read.
Rating: Summary: Exciting With a Happy Ending Review: The paperback version I have is quite old, and has a different illustration on the cover. I absolutely loved this book when I was a young girl and remember reading it over and over. It made me feel as though I was on the island with the girls, and gave me a preview of what taking care of babies would be like! I very highly recommend this book for all pre-teen girls.
