Rating: Summary: Not a very good book for the target audience Review: As a first grade teacher, I understand the importance of reading to children as often as possible. My class adored Charlie the Caterpillar and the simple explanation about its life cycle. Also, I believe it's a great tool to teach the value of real friendship. My students were mesmerized with the colorful illustrations and the fuzzy, adorable character. Charlie the Caterpillar is by far my favorite children's book in my own classroom library!
Rating: Summary: Loveable! Review: Charlie is charming, endearing, adorable, loveable. This is the heartwarming story of Charlie the caterpillar. No one will let Charlie play with them. Why? They say, "Because you are an ugly caterpillar." Charlie doesn't understand. Winter is approaching, he's chilly and he's sad so he wraps himself up in a cocoon. When spring arrives and Charlie comes out he is a beautiful butterfly! Now everyone wants him to be his friend. Why? They say, "Because you are a beautiful butterfly." Charlie refuses to play with them and finds someone truly worthy of his friendship. Read the book and you will see!
Rating: Summary: Beautiful on the Inside Review: Charlie learns how to be a good friend from those who are not such good friends. Provides young children a wonderful example of the true meaning of friendship and how to be a good caring caterpillar, er person. You and your children will really enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: Please Do Research Review: I am an environmental education coordinator at a wetlands center. I have not read this book and will not buy it until I see how the life cycle is written. I am going by what is written on the back cover. This is a very cute book with nice illustrations and a good story about friendships. But, I would like to see more authors do their research. Moth caterpillars spin cocoons and butterfly caterpillars make a hard shell called a chrysalis. When kids are brought up reading books that tell them one thing and then I am trying to educate them with the correct words it is difficult. Classroom teachers also think all the words are correct and are not informed unless they bring their students to a nature center.

Rating: Summary: friendships Review: My family loves this book. The book teaches a wonderful lesson of love, understanding and friendship.
Rating: Summary: My Opinion About Charlie The Caterpillar Review: My opinion about Charlie The Caterpillar is that I liked it a lot. For English class I had to read three childrens books, and write a review on each one. This book is by far my favorite book. I loved each part about it. I like the way the book was set up, and how it coordinated each other. The illustrations by Christopher Santoro, are really good, just like it was real. The book isnt as easy to start kids out to read but it is a fun, bed time story. In conclusion I really really like this book and in my opinion there should be more books just like this one.

Rating: Summary: An old, but very important, message Review: One of the academic publications called the message in this book "trite." That may be true if you are an educated adult, but this is a children's book. How many of us can remember being ridiculed as children because we weren't the tallest, or the strongest, or the prettiest kid in class, or because Mom and Dad couldn't afford the latest designer sneakers, errr, athletic footwear, for us? This may be an old message, but it is obvious that it is a message kids still need to hear, more than just once. Frankly, I've known plenty of adults who still haven't learned this simple lesson. "Charlie the Caterpillar" is a wonderful and warm story about the difference between shallow sycophants and true friends. The illustrations are definitely the highlight of the book; Charlie and Katie are downright huggable. Far from being cartoonish, the caterpillars have a real depth to them. My only regret after reading this book is that no toymaker has seized the opportunity to license the caterpillar design for a plush cuddle toy. Small children would love it.
