Rating: Summary: Bill and Pete Go down the Nile by Will Herman Review: I think more children would be willing to brush their teeth if they had a toothbrush like Pete the way that Bill does. Bill is a crocodile, and his friend Pete is a bird who has the job of cleaning Bill's teeth. In this second adventure Bill and Pete and heading for a trip down the Nile because Bill's teacher Ms. Ibis is teaching them all about Egypt. Bill is very excited to learn all about esophaguses and the stinks (think about it). On their trip the young crocodiles (and their toothbrushes) see all sorts of exciting sites (OOOOOOO!). But the highpoint of the trip will be a visit to the Royal Museum to see the Sacred Eye of Isis. This is the most valuable jewel in all the world, but whoever owns it has bad luck, and Bill is very suspicious when he keeps noticing a bad guy hanging around all the time. It will undoubtedly do kids good to see young crocodiles who are excited about learning and always remember to brush their teeth. Tomie dePaola tells a cute little story and the artwork is the sort kids will love to emulate. Besides, kids will learn some neat stuff about Egypt as well and it never hurts to sneak in a little learning with a lot of silly fun.
Rating: Summary: Great introduction to the Nile Review: My 6 year old is learning about Egypt with my 4 year old trying to take in as much as he can, this book was great for both of them. My 4 year old could understand it and of course the "toothbrush" was quite silly but my 6 year old got a good chuckle from it too.
Rating: Summary: A very educational book Review: This book teaches everything from Egypt to good manners. It teaches good habits like brushing your teeth after meals, how to prepare and the events of a field trip and the age old good verses evil by pointing out the "bad guy". It's impressive how much info this little book packs into itself. The bird being a toothbrush is a bit confusing though. I guess its a joke.
Rating: Summary: why not 5 stars? Review: This is an absolutely adorable book! My kids both love it. They love the "OOOOOOOO's" and mistaking "stinks" for "sphinx." And the already mentioned "toothbrush" thing just gets my nearly-6-yo rolling. I like it, too, but I give it four out of five stars because "shut up" is in the text. I really don't want my kids hearing it, even from a known "bad guy." I replace it with "hush," but my 5-yo is reading now and he reads it to me as it is written. Just a warning for you "shut-up'-is-a-bad-word households.
